Role: D365 Finance & Operations Developer
Role type: Full-time
Shift: 2 to 11 pm IST
Notice: Immediate to 45 days
Location: PAN India - Remote
Experience: 5 to 8 Years
Summary The D365 Finance & Operations Developer is responsible for designing, building, testing, documenting,
deploying and supporting maintainable solutions on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and related Microsoft technologies. This is a hands-on developer role, not a task-only coding role: the successful candidate must be able to take well-defined user stories, ask the right clarification questions,
propose practical technical options, apply agreed engineering standards and deliver changes independently without day-to-day micro-management.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate independent ownership of technical delivery. During the selection process candidates will be asked to explain how they approach solution design, estimation, testing, code review, deployment and support handover.
Role purpose
- Translate business and product needs into robust D365 F&O; technical changes that are secure,
maintainable, supportable and aligned to agreed architecture and platform standards.
- Contribute to solution design for user stories, including options, assumptions, risks, dependencies,
estimates and test considerations, rather than waiting for detailed step-by-step technical instructions.
- Build quality into the development lifecycle through disciplined X++ development, code review, unit
testing, integration testing, documentation, ALM and controlled deployment practices.
- Work effectively within an Agile product team, collaborating with Product Owners, Business
Analysts, QA, functional consultants, architects, platform specialists and other developers.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Analyse user stories and business requirements, contributing technical insight during refinement,
estimation and sprint planning.
- Design and develop maintainable D365 F&O; changes using X++, extensions, Chain of Command,
data entities, SSRS, integrations and related Microsoft tooling.
- Document solution options, design decisions, assumptions, risks and support considerations clearly
enough for review, testing, deployment and handover.
- Apply coding standards,
secure development principles, peer review, source control and Azure
DevOps practices consistently.
- Prepare and support testing, including unit testing, functional test evidence, integration testing,
defect investigation and performance troubleshooting.
- Support controlled releases through deployment preparation, release notes, configuration notes,
rollback considerations and post-deployment validation.
- Collaborate with product, functional, QA, architecture, platform and support colleagues to resolve
issues and deliver changes safely.
- Keep current with relevant Microsoft platform updates and engineering practices, sharing learning
with the wider team. Expected skills, behaviours and competencies
- Works under general direction, taking ownership of well-defined user stories from refinement
through to build, test evidence, deployment readiness and handover.
- Thinks through solution options pragmatically, balancing business value, risk, cost,
maintainability, performance and supportability.
- Builds quality into day-to-day delivery through careful analysis, clean code, testing discipline,
documentation and constructive response to defects.
- Demonstrates awareness of emerging AI and Microsoft Copilot capabilities, with the curiosity
and confidence to evaluate where AI-assisted approaches may improve user experience, productivity, quality or operational efficiency, while applying appropriate governance, security and business judgement.
- Communicates clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues, raising ambiguity, risks and
blockers early with recommended options.
- Collaborates as part of one team, sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues and helping others
adopt improved ways of working.
- Uses evidence and sound judgement to make timely recommendations and contribute to
continuous improvement.
- Demonstrates integrity,
accountability and alignment with business goals, with a focus on
delivering positive outcomes for users and the wider business. Technical and product-related skills
- Strong hands-on development experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations,
including X++, extensions, Chain of Command, forms, tables, data entities and SSRS.
- Positive understanding of D365 F&O; modules and business processes, ideally including Finance,
Supply Chain, Inventory, Procurement, Sales Order processing or HR.
- Practical experience of Azure DevOps, source control, branching, pull requests, build and
release processes, and deployment through controlled environments.
- Understanding of D365 F&O; application lifecycle management, environment strategy, solution
layering and controlled movement of change.
- Experience designing or supporting integrations using D365 data entities, OData, APIs, Logic
Apps, Dataverse, Dual-write or equivalent integration patterns.
- Working knowledge of secure coding, unit testing, regression awareness, integration testing,
performance investigation and support handover.
- Familiarity with Power Platform, Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse, Microsoft Fabric,
Data Lake or Azure services is highly desirable.
Qualifications and experience
- Typically 3 to 5+ years of relevant D365 F&O; development experience, with evidence of hands-on delivery in live or implementation environments.
- Experience working in an Agile product or delivery team, contributing to backlog refinement, sprint planning, development, testing, review and release activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Microsoft certifications such as MB-500, MB-300, MB-310, MB-330, PL-900, PL-200 or Azure
Fundamentals are desirable, but practical evidence of delivery quality is more important than certification alone.
- Strong written and verbal English communication, with the ability to explain technical options,
risks and dependencies clearly.
- Ability to work across time zones, including regular overlap with UK working hours up to 5:00 PM UK time where required.
