Key Responsibilities
A. Product Costing & Cost Management
- Lead product-wise costing for manufactured products across business units and manufacturing locations.
- Establish and maintain accurate product cost structures covering raw materials, packing materials, conversion costs, utilities, manpower and manufacturing overheads.
- Review actual product costs and identify key cost drivers and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Ensure costing reflects actual manufacturing conditions and relevant production data.
- Review and validate costing methodologies and costing assumptions periodically.
B. Overhead Allocation & Cost Centre Management
- Lead the calculation and allocation of manufacturing and operational overheads to products and cost centres.
- Review allocation methodologies based on appropriate cost drivers and plant utilization.
- Analyze plant-wise and product-wise overhead absorption.
- Identify abnormal cost variations, under/over absorption and areas requiring corrective action.
C. Product Profitability & Margin Analysis
- Prepare and review product-wise Gross Margin / profitability analysis on a monthly basis.
- Analyze profitability using current and previous-period raw material and manufacturing costs.
- Identify products falling under high-margin, moderate-margin, low-margin and loss-making categories.
- Provide actionable insights to management for pricing, product mix and profitability improvement.
- Support management in evaluating the financial impact of changes in raw material prices, manufacturing costs and product pricing.
D. Standard Costing, Variance & Cost Control
- Develop, review and monitor standard/estimated costs versus actual costs, wherever applicable.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis covering:
- Raw material price variance
- Material consumption variance
- Conversion cost variance
- Manufacturing overhead variance
- Production yield variance
- Other significant cost deviations
- Identify root causes of significant cost variances and coordinate with concerned functions for corrective action.
- Drive cost-control initiatives in coordination with Plant and Operations teams.
E. Raw Material & Material Consumption Analysis
- Monitor and analyze raw material purchase prices and consumption trends.
- Review material issue and consumption data from warehouses and production departments.
- Analyze changes in raw material costs and their impact on product profitability.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Stores and Production to validate material consumption and costing data.
F. BOM & Product Cost Structure
- Review and validate Bill of Materials (BOMs) and other product cost inputs used for costing.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of material and process-related costing information.
- Coordinate with Production, Engineering, R&D; and other relevant functions for changes affecting product cost.
- Monitor the financial impact of changes in BOM, process parameters, yield and consumption norms.
G. Inventory Valuation & Control
- Lead the monthly inventory valuation process across manufacturing units.
- Review valuation of raw materials, packing materials, WIP and finished goods.
- Coordinate and review physical inventory verification and reconciliation.
- Analyze inventory variances and ensure appropriate reconciliation with financial records.
- Support inventory audit and strengthen inventory control practices.
H. Expense Analysis & Plant Cost Review
- Prepare and review monthly plant-wise expense statements.
- Analyze actual expenses against previous periods and identify significant variations.
- Review manufacturing and operational expenses with Plant Finance and Operations teams.
- Highlight unusual expenditure trends and provide recommendations for cost control.
I. Financial Reconciliation & Management Reporting
- Ensure costing and profitability reports are appropriately reconciled with the company's Profit & Loss (P&L;).
- Prepare monthly costing MIS and management dashboards.
- Provide management with actionable cost and profitability insights.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial and costing analyses as required by senior management.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of costing reports for management review.
J. Plant & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Act as the key costing interface between Corporate Finance, Plant Finance, Production, Procurement, Stores, Supply Chain, QA and other relevant functions.
- Obtain and validate operational information required for costing, inventory and profitability analysis.
- Guide plant teams in maintaining accurate costing-related data.
- Conduct periodic reviews with plant teams on cost trends, variances and improvement opportunities.
K. Cost Optimization & Business Support
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and profitability improvement across products and manufacturing locations.
- Evaluate the financial impact of operational changes and business proposals.
- Support management in business decisions involving product profitability, pricing, manufacturing location and cost optimization.
- Provide financial insights for improving cost competitiveness.
L. Team Leadership & Process Governance
- Lead and mentor the costing team and ensure effective allocation of responsibilities.
- Establish appropriate review mechanisms for costing, inventory and profitability activities.
- Ensure timely completion of monthly costing and reporting activities.
- Develop and strengthen costing processes, controls, templates and MIS.
- Ensure consistency of costing practices across manufacturing units.
- Review the quality and accuracy of costing outputs prepared by the team.
