Role Purpose

To manage and ensure productive functioning of Central Stores operations, including receipt, storage, preservation, inventory control, issuance, and dispatch of materials and spares. The role is responsible for maintaining optimum inventory levels, ensuring material availability, minimizing inventory carrying costs, and maintaining strong stores controls and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Stores Operations

- Manage day-to-day operations of Central Stores covering receipt, inspection, storage, preservation, issuance, and dispatch of materials.

- Ensure timely availability of critical spares, consumables, engineering materials, and other plant requirements.

- Establish systematic storage and material handling practices for efficient utilization of warehouse space.

- Ensure proper identification, codification, binning, tagging, and location management of materials.

- Monitor receipt of materials against Purchase Orders and coordinate with Purchase and user departments for resolution of discrepancies.

- Ensure timely issue of materials against authorized requisitions and maintain accurate transaction records.

Inventory Management

- Monitor inventory levels and ensure optimum stock availability while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.

- Monitor minimum/maximum stock levels, reorder levels, safety stock, and critical spares.

- Conduct regular cycle counts and physical stock verification and ensure reconciliation with system inventory.

- Identify slow-moving, non-moving, surplus, and obsolete materials and initiate appropriate action.

- Drive inventory reduction and working-capital optimization initiatives.

- Ensure proper preservation and periodic inspection of critical and long-storage materials.

Systems & Process Management





- Ensure accurate and timely transactions in SAP MM / ERP for receipts, issues, transfers, returns, and stock adjustments.

- Maintain material master data, storage locations, bin records, and inventory documentation.

- Develop and monitor Stores MIS and key inventory performance indicators.

- Standardize stores processes and drive automation and digitization initiatives.

- Ensure adherence to approved SOPs and internal control mechanisms.

Coordination & Stakeholder Management

- Coordinate with Purchase, Maintenance, Operations, Projects, Finance, and other user departments for material planning and availability.

- Work closely with Purchase to ensure timely procurement of critical and long-lead items.

- Coordinate with Finance and Internal Audit for stock reconciliation and compliance requirements.

- Resolve material availability, quality, quantity, and documentation-related issues.

Compliance & Safety

- Ensure compliance with company policies, stores procedures, audit requirements, and statutory guidelines.

- Maintain proper documentation for all stores transactions.

- Ensure safe material handling, stacking, storage, and movement practices.

- Implement appropriate controls for high-value, hazardous, and critical materials.

- Conduct regular stores inspections and ensure timely closure of audit observations.

Team Management

- Lead and supervise stores officers, engineers, supervisors, and contract manpower.

- Allocate manpower effectively across shifts and stores activities.

- Monitor team productivity and ensure adherence to defined processes.





- Train and develop the team on inventory management, SAP, safety, and stores best practices.

Educational Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial / Production Engineering or equivalent.

- MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain / Materials Management / Operations will be preferred.

Experience

- 10–15 years of relevant experience in Stores / Warehouse / Materials Management.

- Strong experience in Central Stores operations in an integrated steel plant, heavy manufacturing, mining, power, or other large industrial setup.

- Hands-on experience in managing engineering spares, consumables, critical equipment spares, and large-scale inventories is preferred.
