General Manager - Supply Chain Management (CapEx & Projects)
Function: Supply Chain Management
Business: Manufacturing / Engineering
Location: Hubballi, Karnataka
Reporting To: Business Head / COO
Job Summary The General Manager - Supply Chain Management (CapEx & Projects) will be responsible for leading and driving the end-to-end supply chain strategy with a robust focus on Capital Expenditure (CapEx), Greenfield/Brownfield projects, strategic sourcing, procurement excellence, warehousing, logistics, and supplier development.
The role will ensure timely procurement and execution of project requirements while optimizing costs, mitigating risks, strengthening supplier partnerships, and delivering operational excellence. The incumbent will play a key role in supporting plant expansion, infrastructure creation, manufacturing growth initiatives, and digital transformation programs.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Supply Chain Leadership
- Develop and implement supply chain strategies aligned with organizational growth and operational objectives.
- Drive procurement and supply chain excellence across CapEx projects, plant expansion initiatives, and operational requirements.
- Establish best-in-class sourcing practices to improve efficiency, quality, and responsiveness.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives in supply chain through ERP, automation, analytics, and process improvement.
CapEx & Project Procurement
- Lead procurement activities for Greenfield and Brownfield projects, including machinery, equipment, utilities, infrastructure, and construction services.
- Develop sourcing strategies for major capital investments and project-related purchases.
- Ensure timely availability of materials and services to meet project timelines.
- Collaborate with EPC contractors, engineering teams, consultants,
and project stakeholders.
Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Management
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and onboard strategic suppliers.
- Build long-term partnerships with key suppliers to improve competitiveness and supply assurance.
- Conduct supplier audits and performance evaluations.
- Drive supplier localization, value engineering, and sustainable sourcing initiatives.
Tendering, Contracting & Negotiations
- Lead RFQ, RFP, and tender management processes.
- Review technical specifications and lead techno-commercial evaluations.
- Negotiate commercial terms, contracts, payment conditions, and service agreements.
- Ensure contract compliance and manage supplier performance against commitments.
Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction through sourcing optimization and value engineering.
- Monitor procurement budgets and project spending.
- Improve Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and deliver annual savings objectives.
- Benchmark industry practices to enhance procurement effectiveness.
Supply Chain Operations
- Oversee procurement, inventory management, warehousing, logistics, and material planning functions.
- Ensure seamless coordination between suppliers, manufacturing, projects, and internal stakeholders.
- Drive S&OP; and demand planning processes where applicable.
- Optimize inventory levels while maintaining service requirements.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Develop mitigation strategies for supply disruptions and project risks.
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies, governance standards, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain compliance with GST, customs regulations, EXIM policies, and contractual obligations.
- Implement robust supplier risk assessment frameworks.
Stakeholder & Team Management
- Partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Quality, Manufacturing, and Project teams.
- Build and lead a high-performing supply chain organization.
- Develop talent, succession planning, and capability-building initiatives.
- Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- MBA in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Procurement, or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- 15+ years of progressive experience in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, and Strategic Sourcing.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing large procurement or supply chain teams.
- Proven experience in CapEx procurement, Greenfield/Brownfield projects, plant setup, and infrastructure development.
- Manufacturing industry experience is mandatory.
- Experience in SEZ/EOU environments will be an added advantage.
