Vice Principal – Academics CBSE School 1. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Academic Leadership
- Provide overall academic leadership and direction to the school.
- Work with the Principal to develop and implement the school's academic vision and strategy.
- Ensure effective implementation of the CBSE/NCERT curriculum across all grades.
- Ensure consistency in academic standards, teaching practices, assessments, and learning outcomes.
- Monitor the academic functioning of all sections, departments, and grade levels.
- Guide Academic Coordinators, HODs, and teachers in achieving academic objectives.
- Identify academic weaknesses and implement appropriate corrective and improvement measures.
- Establish a culture of academic excellence, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
B. Curriculum Planning & Implementation
- Have comprehensive knowledge of the CBSE curriculum from the foundational stage through Classes X and XII.
- Ensure proper curriculum planning, sequencing, pacing, and timely syllabus completion.
- Review annual academic plans, subject plans, lesson plans, and curriculum maps.
- Ensure appropriate integration of:
- Competency-based learning
- Experiential learning
- Project-based learning
- Art-integrated learning
- Life skills
- Critical thinking
- Problem-solving
- Digital learning
- Interdisciplinary learning
- Ensure curriculum implementation is aligned with current CBSE requirements and educational developments.
C. Teaching & Learning Quality
- Monitor classroom teaching and learning practices.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback.
- Review lesson planning and ensure that lesson plans translate into effective classroom learning.
- Promote learner-centric, experiential, inquiry-based, and competency-based pedagogy.
- Ensure teachers use appropriate differentiation and intervention strategies.
- Establish academic benchmarks for different grades and subjects.
- Encourage innovative teaching methodologies and effective use of educational technology.
- Ensure that academic activities focus on actual student learning rather than merely completing documentation.
D. Assessment & Examination
- Provide leadership for the school's complete assessment system.
- Review the quality and appropriateness of question papers and assessments.
- Ensure increasing use of competency-based, application-oriented, analytical, and higher-order questions.
- Monitor periodic tests, internal assessments, examinations, projects, practicals, and other academic assessments.
- Analyse examination results at:
- School level
- Grade level
- Section level
- Subject level
- Teacher level
- Student level
- Identify learning gaps and ensure timely remedial action.
- Develop systems for academic data analysis and performance tracking.
- Closely monitor the academic preparation and performance of Classes X and XII.
E. Board Examination & Academic Results
- Take a leadership role in improving CBSE Board results.
- Analyse previous Board examination performance and identify trends.
- Develop subject-wise and student-wise improvement strategies.
- Monitor high achievers as well as students requiring academic intervention.
- Establish systems for regular Board-class monitoring.
- Ensure teachers have appropriate academic plans for Board preparation.
- Monitor pre-Board examinations, revision programmes, remedial classes, doubt-clearing programmes, and enrichment initiatives.
- Benchmark the school's academic performance against appropriate standards.
F. Teacher Development & Academic Capacity Building
- Identify teacher training and professional development needs.
- Develop and coordinate an annual academic training programme.
- Conduct workshops, academic meetings, demonstrations, and mentoring sessions.
- Mentor new teachers and support teachers requiring improvement.
- Promote peer learning, collaborative planning, lesson study, and sharing of best practices.
- Support the Principal in teacher appraisal and academic performance evaluation.

Establish a robust academic monitoring system covering:

Conduct periodic academic audits and submit structured reports to the Principal.
