– Shift Engineer – Powder Coating
Designation: Shift Engineer – Powder Coating
Experience: 2–5 Years
Qualification: Diploma / BE / B. Tech – Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering
Industry Preference: Manufacturing, Fabrication, Sheet Metal, Engineering
Job Purpose To manage and control day-to-day powder coating shop-floor activities during the assigned shift, ensuring achievement of production targets, required coating quality, optimum manpower utilization, minimum rejection/rework, and safe operation of the powder coating process.
Key Responsibilities1. Production & Shift Management
- Plan and execute daily production as per PPC / production plan.
- Achieve shift-wise production targets while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor line productivity, manpower utilization and machine utilization.
- Allocate manpower according to production requirements.
- Monitor material movement and ensure availability of components, powder and consumables.
- Maintain shift production reports and communicate production status to the reporting manager.
- Analyze production losses, downtime and target shortfalls.
1. Powder Coating Process Control
- Monitor the complete powder coating process including:
- Pre-treatment / chemical cleaning
- Drying
- Powder application
- Curing
- Cooling and final inspection
- Monitor spray booth, powder guns, powder recovery system, conveyor and curing oven.
- Ensure correct powder shade, powder type and application parameters.
- Monitor coating thickness, curing temperature, conveyor speed and curing time as per process requirements.
- Ensure proper grounding of components during powder application.
- Monitor powder consumption and minimize material wastage.
1. Quality Control
- Ensure coated components meet defined quality specifications.
- Identify and control defects such as:
- Orange peel
- Uneven coating
- Low / high coating thickness
- Poor adhesion
- Blistering
- Pinholes
- Sagging
- Shade variation
- Under-curing / over-curing
- Coordinate with Quality for inspection and approval of first-off / trial components.
- Carry out root cause analysis for rejection and rework.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain quality records and rejection / rework data.
Powder coating quality is strongly dependent on pretreatment, powder application and correct curing conditions, so the engineer should be capable of controlling these parameters systematically.
1. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination
- Monitor the operational condition of powder coating equipment.
- Coordinate with Maintenance for breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
- Identify abnormalities in:
- Powder coating guns
- Booth and filters
- Conveyor
- Pretreatment system
- Dry-off oven
- Curing oven
- Burners / heaters
- Air compressors
- Reduce machine downtime through timely escalation and troubleshooting.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained as per schedule.
1. Manpower Management
- Supervise Powder Coating Operators, Helpers and other shop-floor personnel.
- Allocate operators to different workstations.
- Monitor attendance and manpower availability during the shift.
- Train operators on process parameters, quality requirements and secure working practices.
- Monitor operator productivity and discipline.
1. Safety, 5S & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with plant safety rules and PPE requirements.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of powder and chemicals.
- Monitor housekeeping and 5S activities in the powder coating area.
- Ensure safe operation of ovens, spray booths, conveyors and electrical equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses and incidents immediately.
- Participate in safety audits and corrective actions.
1. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain and update:
- Shift production report
- Production target vs. actual report
- Rejection and rework report
- Downtime report
- Powder consumption report
- Manpower report
- Process parameter records
- Quality inspection records
- Maintenance / breakdown records
- 5S and safety checklists

Required Technical Skills
- Valuable knowledge of powder coating process.
- Knowledge of pretreatment and surface preparation.
- Knowledge of manual and semi-automatic powder coating systems.
- Knowledge of powder coating spray guns and booth operation.
- Understanding of curing oven temperature and curing time.
- Knowledge of coating thickness / DFT measurement.
- Basic knowledge of paint / coating defects and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing and basic problem-solving tools.
- Knowledge of MS Excel and production reporting.
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings.

Ideal Candidate Profile Experience: 2–5 years in Powder Coating / Paint Shop / Surface Treatment / Fabrication Manufacturing.
The candidate should have hands-on experience in shop-floor shift handling, rather than only laboratory or quality inspection experience.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
