Job Summary The SPM Design Engineer is responsible for the conceptualization, design, and development of custom-built machines and automation systems that cater to specific industrial or manufacturing needs. This role requires strong technical expertise in mechanical design, an understanding of manufacturing processes, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient, reliable, and cost-effective machines.
Key Roles And Responsibilities 2. Detailed Engineering and Documentation 3. Machine Manufacturing and Assembly Support
- Concept and Design Development
- Understand customer requirements, product specifications, and process needs.
- Develop conceptual designs, 3D models, and layouts for special purpose machines.
- Conduct design feasibility studies and mechanism analysis.
- Select suitable motion systems (mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic).
- Ensure designs meet electrical, safety, ergonomic, and functional standards.
- Create 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD tools (SolidWorks / AutoCAD).
- Prepare detailed assembly drawings, part drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Perform tolerance analysis and ensure manufacturability of components.
- Document all design-related technical data, calculations, and revisions.
- Coordinate with the production and assembly teams during fabrication, machining, and assembly stages.
- Provide technical support during machine building, testing, and debugging.
- Identify and resolve design issues or assembly mismatches.
- Support suppliers and vendors in understanding technical specifications.
- Testing, Validation, and Commissioning
- Participate in machine trials, functional testing, and performance validation.
- Analyze results, identify improvement areas, and implement design modifications.
- Support commissioning at the client site if required.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Research and implement new technologies, materials, and mechanisms to enhance performance.
- Contribute to standardization of machine elements and design templates.
- Work towards cost reduction, reliability improvement, and cycle time optimization.
Required Skills And Competencies
- Strong knowledge of machine design principles, mechanisms, and kinematics.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Good understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and motion control systems.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and PLC systems (for integration understanding).
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, material selection, and GD&T.;
- Analytical, innovative, and problem-solving mindset.
- Solid communication and teamwork skills.
- Provide extended support based on project schedules and customer requirements, including overtime, weekend work, or travel as needed to ensure timely project completion, installation, and customer satisfaction.
