Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Design Engineers, Design Engineers, Junior Design Engineers, Draughtsman for our static equipment and structural engineering design team. In this role, you will oversee end-to-end design, stress analysis, detailing, and fabrication engineering for atmospheric storage tanks, heavy structural steel, and pressure vessels. You will ensure all designs comply with international codes, client specifications, and local regulations while driving efficiency in shop fabrication and field erection.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Engineering Management
- Lead the engineering design and calculation of static equipment, including:
- Storage Tanks: Above-ground vertical atmospheric storage tanks as per API 650, API 620, and API 653.
- Pressure Vessels: Shell-and-tube heat exchangers, separators, and columns according to ASME Section VIII Div 1 & Div 2.
- Structural Steel: Pipe racks, equipment skids, platform structures, stairways, and support structures per AISC, BS, or ISO standards.
- Review and approve design calculations, mechanical data sheets, fabrication drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), and cutting plans.
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and stress analysis for critical components, nozzles, and structural connections where applicable.
2. Team Leadership & Project Execution
- Supervise, mentor, and guide a team of design engineers, draughtsmen, and 3D detailers (e.g., Tekla / PV Elite operators).
- Manage engineering schedules, deliverable registers, and man-hour estimates to ensure on-time execution.
- Conduct internal design reviews and cross-disciplinary coordination (e.g., Piping, Process, Quality Control, and Shop Fabrication).
3. Client & Vendor Coordination
- Act as the primary technical interface with clients, Third-Party Inspection (TPI) agencies, and EPC consultants for design approvals and technical queries (TQ / TQRs).
- Review supplier/sub-contractor technical proposals, material test certificates (MTCs), and shop detail drawings.
- Support procurement by providing technical input for plate specifications, structural grades (e.g., IS 2062, ASTM A36, ASTM A516 Gr. 70), and specialty welding/forging materials.
4. Fabrication & Construction Support
- Collaborate closely with shop fabrication and welding teams to resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and constructability issues.
- Ensure designs are optimized for shop efficiency (cutting nesting, joint details, weld accessibility) and safe field erection.
- Participate in design risk assessments (HAZOP / SAFOP / Constructability Reviews) as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelors Degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Mechanical or Structural Engineering from a recognized university. (Master's degree is a plus).
- Experience: 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in design and engineering of pressure vessels, storage tanks, and structural steel, with at least 35 years in a Lead/Senior capacity within an Oil & Gas fabrication environment.
- Codes & Standards Expertise:
- Tanks: API 650, API 620, API 653, AWWA D100.
- Pressure Vessels: ASME Section VIII (Div 1 & Div 2), ASME Section II (Materials), ASME Section IX (Welding).
- Structures & Piping: AISC 360, AWS D1.1, ASME B31.3.
Technical Skills & Software Proficiency
- Design & Analysis Software: PV Elite, COMPRESS, TANK, CAESAR II, ANSYS, or STAAD.Pro.
- CAD / Detailing Tools: Proficiency in review tools like AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or Navisworks.
- Robust understanding of fabrication techniques, welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, SAW, GTAW), heat treatment (PWHT), and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods.
Core Competencies
- Proven team management and technical leadership capabilities.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical writing skills.
- High attention to detail regarding safety, quality standards, and code compliance.
