Job Title: Maintenance Tech I Department: Public Works Division: General Services FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Status: Full-time Salary: $20.09/hr Job Physical Level: Strenuous GENERAL PURPOSE Performs unskilled and skilled work in the operation and maintenance of streets, bridges, parks, natural areas and recreation areas to maintain a beautiful, safe and welcoming setting for the community of Trinidad and it’s visitors. Essential Duties And Responsibilities The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required. Responsibilities as outlined in the City Charter: Note: Regular and predictable attendance in the performance of this job is an essential function.

- Performs minor maintenance of trucks and equipment, such as greasing, washing and checking oil and tires.
- Responsible for street repairs and maintenance, including surface restoration, sign installation and repair, and painting traffic lines.
- Keeps public grounds clear and safe, including mowing grass, picking up debris and trash, and removing snow and ice during hazardous weather conditions.
- Maintains streets, storm drains, catch basins, parks and other public areas.
- Provides trash removal for City owned properties such as park spaces and recreation areas.
- Trims trees, removes brush and chips remaining wood.
- Maintains and cleans public restrooms, performs minor repairs on fixtures.
- Provides maintenance and repair of irrigation systems on sports fields and special plantings.
- Performs plowing, blowing and hauling of snow; sanding and salting of roadways
- Flushes and cleans manholes, catch basins, storm sewer, and storm sewer pipelines.
- Maintains ditches and natural water courses.
- Loads, hauls, and stockpiles sand, gravel, brush, and other materials.
- Maintains a safe work area by setting up barricades, warning devices, and proper vehicle/equipment placement.
- Maintains records of work performed.




- Performs tasks using hand tools, as required.
- Participates in “on-call” program and responds to emergency call outs.
- Performs building maintenance as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Of NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

- Or the ability to learn the geography and streets of the City and locations of public areas.
- Knowledge of safety laws and regulations and the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to the operation of heavy trucks and equipment.

SUPERVISION Received: Works under the general supervision of the Department Foreman and the Public Works Director. Exercised: None.

Job Qualifications Required Education/Experience:

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Labor experience preferred.

Other Requirements

- Must possess a valid current state-issued driver’s license and not be under suspension, revocation or denial nor have any prior alcohol and/or drug related driving offenses within the last five years. A driving record search will be conducted on all applicants prior to employment and will be subject to observation throughout their employment.
- Must possess a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain it within six (6) months of date of hire at the applicant’s expense.
- Successful candidates must pass a background investigation and physical examination in accordance with job duties prior to employment.
- Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout their employment under FMSCA regulations
- CPR/First Aid training required. All certifications, once achieved,



must be maintained throughout employment.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED Must be able to operate equipment typical to the trade such as dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, backhoe, snowplow, street sweeper, tamper, mowers, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone. WORKING CONDITIONS The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort in moderate to intense work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, shoveling, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 100 pounds). The majority of a normal workday involves standing or walking.

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discern colors or shades of colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discern sounds or odors. Some tasks require depth perception or the ability to perceive and discern textures. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.

Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions including, but not limited to, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and toxic agents.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
