Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced EPUB Developer to join our digital publishing team. The candidate will be responsible for creating, converting, testing, and validating high-quality EPUB files from source documents such as PDF, InDesign, Word, and XML.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of EPUB 2/EPUB 3, HTML, CSS, XML, accessibility standards, and EPUB validation tools.

Key Responsibilities

- Create and develop EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 files from various source formats.
- Convert PDF, InDesign, Word, XML, and other source files into accessible EPUB formats.
- Work with HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, OPF, NCX, and EPUB package files.
- Create and maintain proper EPUB navigation, TOC, metadata, landmarks, and reading order.
- Ensure EPUB files meet WCAG and accessibility requirements.
- Implement accessibility features such as:

- Semantic HTML structure

- Proper heading hierarchy

- Alternative text for images

- Language identification

- Table accessibility

- Reading order
- ARIA roles and attributes where required
- Perform EPUB quality checks and troubleshoot validation errors.
- Use tools such as EPUBCheck, Ace by DAISY, Thorium Reader, Calibre, and other EPUB testing tools.
- Review EPUB files across different devices and reading systems.
- Identify and fix formatting, layout, navigation, metadata, and accessibility issues.
- Work with production and quality teams to deliver files within defined TAT and quality standards.




- Analyze client requirements and implement corrections based on specifications.
- Maintain proper folder structures and documentation for completed projects.

Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of EPUB 2 / EPUB 3
- Good knowledge of HTML/XHTML, CSS, XML
- Knowledge of EPUB package structure
- Experience with EPUBCheck and EPUB validation
- Understanding of WCAG 2.1/2.2 and digital accessibility
- Knowledge of DAISY/Ace accessibility standards
- Good understanding of metadata, TOC, navigation, hyperlinks, images, tables, and footnotes
- Ability to troubleshoot EPUB rendering and validation issues
- Valuable attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Good communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills
- Experience in PDF Accessibility Remediation
- Knowledge of Adobe InDesign
- Experience with XML/DITA/XML workflows
- Knowledge of JavaScript or scripting/automation is an added advantage
- Experience working with accessible digital publishing / eBooks
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and screen readers

Education Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, IT, Publishing, Digital Media, or a related field.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates who are detail-oriented, technically strong, and passionate about digital publishing and accessibility. Candidates with hands-on experience in EPUB development and accessibility remediation will be preferred.
