Role Description The Chess Instructor is a full time remote role responsible for delivering engaging, 1:1 online chess lessons to learners in Grades 1–10 and beyond. Day-to-day activities include planning structured lesson plans, teaching fundamental and advanced chess concepts, analyzing student games, and providing actionable feedback to improve strategy, tactics, and decision-making.

The instructor will tailor sessions to each learner’s skill level and goals, support preparation for school-level and competitive tournaments, and integrate skills such as logical thinking and pattern recognition into their teaching. The role also involves monitoring learner progress, communicating with parents and guardians as needed,



maintaining records of sessions and outcomes, and collaborating with the academic team to align chess training with the broader learning ecosystem.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess strong Chess skills, including opening principles, middlegame strategy, endgame techniques, and familiarity with tournament play.
- Candidates should possess Teaching and Tutoring skills, with experience delivering structured, learner-centered instruction to children and adolescents.
- Candidates should possess Training skills, including the ability to design practice routines, set goals, and coach learners for competitions or performance improvement.
- Candidates should possess foundational Mathematics and analytical reasoning skills to connect chess learning with logical thinking and problem-solving.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to different age groups.
- Comfort with online teaching tools, video conferencing platforms, and digital lesson materials.
- Prior experience as a chess coach, instructor, or competitive player; formal ratings or certifications (e.g., from national or international chess federations) are an advantage.
- Patience, cultural sensitivity, and a learner-focused mindset, with the ability to motivate and encourage students from diverse backgrounds.
