Role Overview The Academic Content Development Expert owns the end-to-end intellectual design of academic and skill-integrated programmes - from prospect identification through curriculum design, learning-material authorship, assessment design and go-to-market content support - working closely with academic and industry Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure every deliverable meets both pedagogical and industry-relevance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development (RD) to identify new product/programme opportunities,tracking market, policy (UGC/AICTE/NCVET/NCrF) and industry-demand signals relevant to the institution s portfolio.
- Lead product/programme identification - defining target learner segment, programme structure,credit framework and positioning for each new offering.
- Design and develop curriculum for new and existing programmes/courses, consistent with UGC
- LOCF/CCFUP, NCrF and, where applicable, NSQF-aligned skill-integration norms.
- Coordinate structured curriculum review with academic and industry SMEs; capture, evaluate and incorporate SME recommendations into the final curriculum design.
- Author and develop Self-Paced Learning Material (SLM) - including full-length books/course manuals - and Student Study Material for each course/programme.
- Route SLM drafts to academic and industry SMEs for review; consolidate and incorporate SME recommendations into final publishable material.
- Design the assessment schema for each course/programme - assessment structure, weightages,rubrics and evaluation methodology - consistent with the institutionAcademic Program Development SOP.
- Develop question banks (formative and summative)
for each course/programme assessment,ensuring outcome alignment and appropriate difficulty distribution.
- Prepare raw content/input decks for programme brochures and website copy, to be handed off to the business/marketing team for design and publishing.
Qualifications Skills Required
- Postgraduate degree in the relevant academic discipline preferably in Engineering, Education, or Curriculum Instructional Design; a doctoral qualification is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or academic content authorship, preferably spanning both academic and industry/skill-based programme design.
- University working background in the Online/ODL content and curriculum development.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating SME panels (academic and industry) and converting SME input into finished curriculum/content.
- Strong instructional design and outcome-based curriculum design skills (CO-PO mapping,Bloom s Taxonomy application)
- Excellent academic writing and content-authorship ability, including full-length SLM/book development
- Working knowledge of UGC/AICTE/NCVET regulatory and credit frameworks (LOCF,CCFUP, NCrF, NSQF)
- Assessment and question-bank design expertise
- Stakeholder management - ability to run structured SME review cycles across academic and industry panels
- Strong written communication for brochure/marketing content input
