Summary : Our partner organization is an independentand non-profit research organisation that - Analyses issues at thefrontier of addressing climate change, managing the energytransition, and limiting environmental threats in India andglobally; Informs policymakers, stakeholders and the public aboutkey policy and governance levers, and their implications; andAccelerates the transition to an environmentally and sociallysustainable future by enabling strategic action for systemicchange. Work Description: The role of a Fellow is to identify,develop and implement current areas of research and engagement. Thisincludes identifying areas of national strategic importance aroundIndia's energy transition, developing a potentially impactfulresearch and policy engagement strategy, identifying potentialsources of funding, working with a team to execute the vision, andbuilding networks with peer research organisations, governments andthe media in the process. This is a leadership position within theorganization and will require a reasonable amount of time devotedto organisation building, including to coordination meetings andmanaging key organisational functions. It is a young and excitingorganisation, and these are crucial years in its development thisposition is expected to play a role in that process withinstitutional commitments ramping up slowly over time. Thecandidate must have research experience and interests related toIndia's energy transition. While they are flexible to candidatesspecific research interests within this broad field,
the candidateshould be able to engage with and carry forward their existing workon governance of energy transitions, metrics and indicators ofprogress, energy transition and climate change, just transitionsfor fossil-dependent regions, sub-national electricity transitionsand the changing political economy of energy. The Fellow isexpected to develop an independent policy research agenda whilecollaborating with other team members. The role demands a level ofcomfort in publishing peer-reviewed work in top journals, writingpolicy briefs that speak to live issues, and writing public-facingpieces such as op-eds. Work Culture: Our partner organizationoperates through collaborative decision-making and with keyinstitutional decisions taken collectively. Potentially successfulcandidates should therefore be comfortable working in such anenvironment. This includes playing an active role in furtheringtheir team culture goals, encouraging the prospects of theirtalented younger colleagues, and being open to (and indeedencouraging) feedback from colleagues. They have structured thisorganisation to ensure independent research and privilege rigorousresearch and high-quality outputs that drive discourse on India'spolicy landscape. They also care deeply about equity,
both in theworkplace and in their research outputs. A successful candidatewill likely have the same core emphases. Key Responsibilities:Develop new areas of work and continue to develop existing areas ofwork in the manner described above with a view to enable India'senergy transition. Build relationships with partners ingovernments, the media and peer organisations in India andglobally. Be able to manage a team and assist colleagues in theircareer development. Develop a pipeline of high impact and highquality academic and policy work in tandem. Engage in team buildingand manage key organizational functions. Qualifications and WorkExperience: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant socialscience discipline or applied sciences with demonstrable policyengagement and public impact. MA/MS candidates will be consideredif the candidate brings a history of impact or high-quality work inthe policy space and have considerable policy experience. A minimumof three to five years of post-doctoral work experience isessential. Demonstrated interest in energy transition policy and/orresearch is desirable. At least two publications in high-impactpeer-reviewed journals are highly desirable. Experience inmentoring younger colleagues and advancing their careers isdesirable. Other evidence of being able to write and thinkcreatively. History of working in or encouraging a flatorganisational structure is preferable. Evidence of working with orenjoying a highly interdisciplinary environments ispreferable.
