Job Summary
The Vendor Development Executive will be responsible for developing and managing suppliers for materials and components used in the manufacturing of Wind Turbine Generator Control Panels. The role involves supplier identification, technical evaluation, vendor qualification, component costing, drawing interpretation, process planning with suppliers, sample development, PPAP coordination, and commercial negotiations.
The incumbent will work closely with Design, Production, Quality, Planning, Stores, and Procurement teams to ensure the timely availability of quality materials required for control panel manufacturing. The role requires strong knowledge of electrical and electronic components, sheet metal fabrication, busbar manufacturing, cable harnesses, wiring accessories, switchgear components, and industrial control systems while driving cost reduction, supplier development, and inventory optimization initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities Specific to Control Panel Manufacturing
Vendor Development for Control Panel Components
- Develop and manage suppliers for control panel-related commodities including:
- PLCs
- HMIs
- Relays
- Contactors
- MCBs/MCCBs
- Terminal Blocks
- Switches & Push Buttons
- Power Supplies
- SMPS
- Sensors
- Cable Harnesses
- Control Cables
- Industrial Connectors
- Cooling Fans
- Transformers
- Busbars
- Electrical Hardware
- Sheet Metal Enclosures
- Identify alternative suppliers for critical electrical and electronic components to mitigate supply risks.
- Support localization initiatives for imported control panel components.
Technical Evaluation & Supplier Coordination
- Review and understand electrical schematics, GA drawings, panel layouts, BOMs, and fabrication drawings.
- Work with suppliers to determine the optimum manufacturing process for:
- Panel enclosures
- Cable assemblies
- Busbar systems
- Control panel assemblies
- Electrical wiring accessories
- Participate in technical discussions with Engineering and suppliers regarding design changes and manufacturability.
- Coordinate supplier readiness for engineering changes and new product introductions.
Costing & Value Engineering
- Perform detailed costing analysis for:
- Electrical Components
- Electronic Components
- Control Panels
- Sheet Metal Parts
- Copper Busbars
- Wiring Accessories
- Fabricated Assemblies
- Evaluate:
- Material Cost
- Conversion Cost
- Tooling Cost
- Surface Treatment Cost
- Assembly Cost
- Logistics Cost
- Drive value engineering and cost reduction projects without affecting product quality and reliability.
Sample Development & New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Coordinate prototype and sample development for new suppliers.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and sample validation.
- Arrange pilot quantity procurement for production trials.
- Coordinate corrective actions for samples requiring modifications.
- Ensure timely qualification of new vendors for production release.
PPAP & Quality Assurance
- Coordinate supplier submissions for PPAP approval.
- Review and track documents such as:
- Process Flow Diagram
- PFMEA
- Control Plan
- Dimensional Reports
- Material Test Certificates
- Capability Studies
- First Article Inspection Reports
- Work closely with Supplier Quality and Quality Assurance teams to ensure compliance with customer and internal quality standards.
Inventory & Planning Coordination
- Coordinate with Planning teams to track long lead-time electrical and electronic items.
- Monitor material availability against production plans.
- Support inventory optimization for high-value control panel components.
- Ensure critical materials are procured to avoid production stoppages.
