Job Summary

Ecopmin Technologies' Solder Division is seeking a hands-on Metallurgical Engineer to take ownership of melting and heating processes, alloy formulation, composition verification, casting, and quality control for lead-free solder alloys including SAC305, SAC0307, and related Sn-Ag-Cu alloys.

The candidate will be responsible for maintaining consistent alloy composition and process quality while ensuring compliance with IPC J-STD-006, ISO 9453, RoHS, and ISO 9001 requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate and monitor melting and heating processes for tin-based solder alloys.
- Control furnace temperature, heating profiles, alloy additions, homogenization, holding, and casting parameters.
- Operate OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer) and interpret chemical composition results.
- Develop and control melting and master-alloy addition processes for SAC305, SAC0307, and other solder alloys.
- Control Tin (Sn) melting and alloying processes, including impurity control and dross management.
- Investigate and correct off-specification batches, composition variation, segregation, and contamination.
- Identify and resolve casting defects such as porosity, shrinkage, dross entrapment, and cracking.
- Maintain QC checklists, batch records, traceability documents, and Certificate of Analysis (CoA).
- Monitor impurity elements including Pb, Bi, Sb, Zn, Fe, Al, As, and Cd.
- Support alloy development, process trials, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with raw-material and master-alloy suppliers regarding material quality.




- Train furnace operators on melting, casting, SOPs, and safety procedures.
- Maintain records related to melting point/DSC, microstructure, and mechanical testing.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality and environmental standards.

Mandatory Requirements

Candidates must have practical experience in the following areas:

- Melting & Heating processes – Mandatory
- Furnace operation – Mandatory
- Tin (Sn) melting and alloying – Mandatory
- OES / Spectrometry operation and interpretation – Mandatory
- Knowledge of SAC305, SAC0307 and Sn-Ag-Cu alloy composition
- Hands-on experience in melting, alloy addition, homogenization, and casting
- Knowledge of casting defects and root-cause analysis
- Understanding of alloy composition control and impurity management

Required Skills

- Knowledge of Sn-Ag-Cu alloy systems and phase diagrams
- Experience with induction or resistance melting furnaces
- OES/Spectrometer operation and chemical composition analysis
- Tin-based alloy processing
- Casting defect analysis and troubleshooting
- Master-alloy addition techniques for Cu/Ag addition into Sn
- Knowledge of IPC J-STD-006, ISO 9453, RoHS, and ISO 9001
- Basic knowledge of SPC and process control




- Good technical documentation and CoA preparation skills

Education

Required:
B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering

Preferred:
M.E./M.Tech in Metallurgy or Materials Science

Alternative:
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering with proven hands-on experience in melting, foundry, casting, or alloy processing.

Preferred Industry Experience

Candidates from the following industries are preferred:

- Solder / electronics alloy manufacturing
- Non-ferrous foundries
- Tin, copper, zinc, or aluminium alloy manufacturing
- Wire / rod casting and manufacturing
- Investment or die casting
- Alloy manufacturing with chemical composition control

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Metallurgical Engineer with strong practical experience in melting, heating, furnace operation, tin alloying, OES analysis, casting, and quality control.

The candidate should be comfortable working in a manufacturing/furnace-floor environment and coordinating with production, quality, operators, suppliers, and management.

Work Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹90,000.00 per month
