Job Description – Mechanical Static Equipment Draftsman
Position
Mechanical Static Equipment Draftsman
Department
Mechanical Design / Engineering
Reporting To
Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer / Design Manager
Job Purpose
To prepare accurate and detailed engineering, fabrication, assembly, and General Arrangement (GA) drawings for static process equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, reactors, storage tanks, and other fabricated mechanical equipment, in accordance with applicable engineering codes, client specifications, and fabrication requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare GA, fabrication, detail, sectional, assembly, and nozzle orientation drawings for static equipment.
- Prepare drawings for:
- Pressure Vessels
- Heat Exchangers
- Columns / Towers
- Reactors
- Storage Tanks
- Agitated / Process Vessels
- Other static process equipment
- Prepare detailed drawings based on design calculations, datasheets, P&IDs;, specifications, and engineering inputs.
- Develop shell, dish-end, nozzle, manhole, support, platform, ladder, saddle, skirt and internal component details.
- Prepare BOM/MTO including material specifications, quantities, thicknesses and component details.
- Prepare plate cutting / development drawings wherever required.
- Prepare and update welding details, weld maps and fabrication details.
- Incorporate design-engineer, client, consultant, QA/QC and fabrication comments into drawings.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable ASME, API, TEMA, IS and client/project specifications.
- Interpret and apply design calculations for dimensions, thicknesses, nozzle locations, supports and other equipment details.
- Coordinate with Design, Production, QA/QC,
Purchase and Project teams to resolve drawing and fabrication-related issues.
- Support fabrication by providing technical clarification on drawings and dimensions.
- Prepare as-built drawings and maintain drawing revisions and document records.
- Carry out self-checks for dimensions, BOM, nozzle orientation, elevations, material specifications, welding details and revision status.
- Maintain proper drawing numbering, revision control and document management.
- Identify drafting/manufacturing issues and discuss practical solutions with the design engineer.
Technical Skills
Mandatory
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
- Good understanding of mechanical fabrication and welding practices.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- P&IDs;
- Mechanical datasheets
- Engineering calculations
- GA drawings
- Fabrication drawings
- Material specifications
- Knowledge of pressure vessel and static equipment detailing.
- Good understanding of dimensions, tolerances, welding symbols and fabrication requirements.
- Ability to prepare accurate BOM/MTO.
Preferred
- Knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1.
- Knowledge of API 650 / API 620 storage tanks.
- Basic knowledge of TEMA for heat exchangers.
- Familiarity with ASME Section IX welding requirements.
- Knowledge of relevant IS/ASTM material specifications.
- Experience with SolidWorks / Inventor or other 3D CAD software.
Qualification
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Draftsmanship.
- Diploma or equivalent qualification preferred for experienced candidates.
Experience
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in static equipment drafting.
- Experience in a pressure vessel / process equipment / EPC / fabrication manufacturing company preferred.
- Candidates with solid experience in pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns and tanks will be preferred.

Performance Expectation: The draftsman should be capable of taking engineering inputs/calculations and independently developing a complete, fabrication-ready static equipment drawing package with minimum supervision.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
