We are hiring on behalf of a SaaS product company in the travel,
transportation and logistics space. This is a permanent role on their team.

WHAT YOU WOULD ACTUALLY DO

· Read and reason about a large existing Java codebase, including the parts
you did not write and the parts nobody remembers writing
· Take a problem as a user reported it, work out what is actually wrong, and
fix it
· Write SQL, and make slow SQL rapid
· Build and extend services using Spring Boot, Spring framework and JPA
repositories
· Work across the web layer when the fix lives there (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
· Operate in an environment where support and development sit side by side,
and some weeks lean more one way than the other

WHAT WE NEED

· Java and J2EE, in production, not just in training
· Spring Boot, Spring framework, JPA repositories
· RDBMS and SQL: writing queries, and optimising the ones that are too slow
· XML
· Solid object-oriented fundamentals
· The ability to debug and troubleshoot effectively, which here means
narrowing down a problem you have never seen before




· Strong communication and teamwork, because you will be talking to the
people who reported the problem, not just to other engineers

WHAT HELPS

· Web development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
· A willingness to pick up unfamiliar technology and adapt quickly. The stack
spans several years of decisions and you will meet all of them

domain up here either way, but arriving with it is a real head start
