The Test Automation Strategy Lead is responsible for defining and driving the test automation strategy across ALLPLAN’s product portfolio, ensuring automated testing supports product delivery goals, quality standards, and broader business objectives. This role combines strategic ownership of test automation and serves as the central contact point for automation related operations. The role leads the evolution of automation practices toward a scalable, governed, and measurable automation ecosystem supporting reliable release decisions.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY

- Define and implement the overall test automation strategy, frameworks, standards, and technical roadmap for desktop and cloud products, including specific support for i18n and L10n testing, aligned with product delivery, quality targets, and organizational priorities.
- Lead and organize the test automation team and community, including mentoring, training and performance guidance.
- Define the target automation landscape across the portfolio and steer technology choices for desktop and cloud automation in alignment with delivery and quality goals.
- Define and continuously improve the interface layer between automated testing and CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable triggering, execution, reporting, and feedback loops.
- Own the execution environment concept for automated testing, including virtualized environments, test data, stability conditions, scalability expectations, and collaboration with DevOps and infrastructure stakeholders.
- Define and maintain clear quality signals, KPIs, and reporting for automation health, test, code, and requirement coverage, defect and risk trends, and performance development across product versions, and use them to support agreed quality gates and release decisions.

- Ensure the automation strategy covers functional and non-functional needs, including regression, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing with trend evaluation across product versions.
- Define framework governance, coding and scripting conventions, review mechanisms, and maintenance rules that improve consistency, maintainability, and long-term sustainability.
- Drive consolidation of fragmented or legacy tooling and approaches, increasing reuse, strategic fit, and operational efficiency across the portfolio.
- Coordinate with Product Management, Quality Management, Development, and DevOps to translate business and delivery expectations into actionable automation priorities and operating procedures.
- Build and maintain practical documentation and training material to support onboarding and effective contribution of entry-level employees.
- Monitor execution results, identify systemic weaknesses, and ensure defects, flaky tests, and setting issues are addressed with appropriate urgency and ownership.
- Maintain a clear view of automation-related risks, dependencies, and capacity constraints and communicate their impact on delivery and quality in a structured and understandable way.
- Continuously evaluate emerging tools, methods, and practices in test automation and assess their fit for the ALLPLAN environment from both a strategic and operational perspective.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR:

- Proven experience in defining and implementing test automation strategies and frameworks in a complex software environment with multiple products or platforms.
- Robust leadership experience in guiding specialized automation teams, including mentoring, structuring responsibilities, and developing people.
- Deep understanding of test automation for both desktop and cloud environments, including UI automation, framework design, execution models, and CI/CD integration.
- Hands-on experience with test automation technologies relevant across desktop, cloud, and non-deterministic (AI-based) systems, ideally including structured UI mapping and identifier-based automation.
- Experience defining execution environments, quality gatekeeping, observability concepts, KPI-based reporting, and release-readiness indicators for automated testing.
- Good understanding of Agile, DevOps, software delivery processes, and collaboration models across product, development, QA, and operations.
- Ability to design pragmatic governance for automation assets, documentation, standards, and training materials.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret trends, identify risks, and turn findings into actionable improvements.
- Experience with version control, defect tracking, and test management tooling, with the ability to connect tool choices to process efficiency and quality outcomes.
- Clear and structured communication skills, including the ability to explain automation strategy and quality implications to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution and operational ownership in a fast-moving product delivery environment.
- Proficiency in English; other languages are desirable. Relevant certifications such as ISTQB are a plus.
