Why UKG
At UKG, the work you do matters. The code you ship, the decisions you make, and the care you show a customer all add up to real impact. Today, tens of millions of workers start and end their days with our workforce operating platform. Helping people get paid, grow in their careers, and shape the future of their industries. That’s what we do.
We never stop learning. We never stop challenging the norm. We push for better, and we celebrate the wins along the way. Here, you’ll get flexibility that’s real, benefits you can count on, and a team that succeeds together. Because at UKG, your work matters—and so do you.
About The Team
Extensibility Studio is how UKG stops being a set of applications and becomes a platform. We own the tooling, SDK surface, and administrative configuration that let customers, partners, and internal teams build on top of the UKG experience—micro-apps, embedded workflows, and the entry point a worker opens each day.
You will work alongside the product teams whose surfaces get extended, with UX and platform architecture, and directly with the partners and customer administrators who build on what we ship.
About The Role
This is a customer-facing platform PM role.
You own the builder experience end to end: what a developer or administrator can build, how quickly they get to something working, and whether they can do it without filing a ticket. Your customer is a builder, and your job is to know that builder better than anyone else in the company.
Much of what you need here, you do not own. Not the teams whose surfaces get extended, not the partners who build on the platform, not the roadmaps you depend on. Progress comes from showing up with firsthand evidence and a clear story about what it means—the kind of case that makes the next step obvious to an engineer, a peer PM, and a VP alike.
An AI-native working style is a baseline expectation. Our engineering teams build with AI coding assistants, our PM organization uses AI agents for research and synthesis, and the products we ship are AI powered.
There is a second dimension specific to this role: increasingly, the thing extending our platform is an agent rather than a person, and that changes what the platform has to offer.
You Will
Own the builder relationship. Run your own discovery with partner developers, customer administrators, and internal teams. Sit in on implementations. Watch people fail to ship something and understand why.
Turn research into a narrative that travels. The same insight needs to land as an acceptance criterion for an engineer, a sequencing argument for a peer PM, and a business outcome for a VP. That translation is core craft in this role, not an add-on.
Build alignment across teams you do not own. Get other product teams to expose their surfaces and sequence their work in a way that serves the platform, using relationships and evidence rather than a mandate.
Own the Extensibility Studio roadmap. Define and sequence the builder-facing surface—micro-app framework, SDK, developer tooling,
and administrative configuration—and make the scope calls that keep releases on schedule.
Treat the developer surface as product. Documentation, sample apps, and reference implementations are the product for this audience, not collateral that follows it.
Represent the builder in governance decisions. Permissions, versioning, backward compatibility, and review policy determine whether builders trust the platform enough to invest in it.
Design for agentic consumers. Partner with AI platform teams so the extensibility surface works for agents as well as people: discoverable capabilities, predictable contracts, and permission models that hold up when an agent is the one calling.
Communicate to senior leadership. Translate extensibility investment into business outcomes—customer retention, partner ecosystem growth, competitive defensibility.
About You
We are looking for a PM who leads with the customer and earns agreement rather than waiting for authority. Someone who would rather spend an afternoon watching a developer struggle than an afternoon in a prioritization meeting, and who comes back with a story that changes what the team builds.
We recognize that background takes many forms. We will consider candidates who meet one of the following experience profiles:
Preferred: PM on a developer-facing or platform product. 4+ years in product management, including 2+ years owning a developer-facing, API, extensibility, or ecosystem product.
Strong: Engineering or solutions background moving into product. 3+ years building software or implementing it for customers, plus 2+ years of product management. You speak engineering fluently because you were one.
Also considered: PM with a strong research and communication track record. 4+ years in enterprise SaaS product management with real depth in customer discovery and unusually robust writing, paired with the technical curiosity to build API and SDK fluency fast.
Regardless Of Path, You Will Need To Demonstrate
- Influence without authority. You can name a decision you moved without the authority to mandate it, and explain how.
- Storytelling as a working skill. You can take a messy problem and give it a shape that makes the next step obvious. We will ask to see your writing, and we will read it closely.
- Customer-forward instincts. Specific examples of research you ran yourself that changed what you built.
- Platform and API fluency. APIs, SDKs, authentication and authorization models, webhooks, and extension patterns—enough depth to hold a credible design conversation and earn engineers' trust. You understand that documentation, error messages, and versioning policy are part of the experience.
- Decision-making style. You make calls, defend them, and update when the data changes.
You do not write requirements that hedge every decision back to engineering.
- Data-driven prioritization. Adoption funnels, time-to-value, and usage instrumentation drive your roadmap, not the loudest stakeholder.
- AI-native working style. AI agents are part of your daily PM workflow—research, synthesis, drafting, metrics analysis—and you understand how building with AI coding assistants changes the way requirements get written.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience launching or scaling a developer portal, app marketplace, or partner ecosystem program.
- Experience with low-code or configuration-driven tooling built for non-developer administrators.
- Background in HCM, workforce management, or another enterprise SaaS domain with complex role and permission models.
- Familiarity with agent and tool-calling frameworks, or building capabilities intended for AI consumers.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
What Success Looks Like In the first 90 days: Complete firsthand discovery with a meaningful set of builders—partners, customer administrators, and internal teams—and publish a synthesis the broader organization cites. Establish the baseline for time-to-first-app and name the friction points behind it. Land a shared definition of the extensibility surface with at least two partner product teams.
In Your First Year
- You are the source of truth on the builder. Others come to you for what builders need, and your research is quoted in decisions you were not in the room for.
- You built alignment beyond your own team. At least two product teams changed their roadmap or exposed a surface because of a case you made.
- Time-to-first-app improved. Time-to-first-app is measurably down, and you can attribute the improvement to specific investments you prioritized.
- Builders are self-sufficient. Builders ship extensions without escalating to get unblocked. Documentation and tooling absorb the questions that used to become tickets.
- Technical credibility earned. You have earned a genuine seat in architecture conversations about the extensibility model, and you are brought in before decisions are made rather than after.
