Job SummaryThe Shadow Teacher provides one-to-one support to a student who requires additional academic, behavioural, social, or emotional assistance in a mainstream school setting. The role is to help the student participate independently in classroom activities while working closely with teachers, parents, and the school’s special education team.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide individual support to the assigned student during classroom activities, transitions, and school routines.
- Help the student understand and follow classroom instructions.
- Support attention, concentration, communication, social interaction, and classroom participation.
- Assist the student in completing academic tasks while encouraging independence rather than doing the work for them.




- Support appropriate behaviour and help the student develop self-regulation and coping strategies.
- Modify or simplify instructions and learning activities when advised by the class teacher or special educator.
- Encourage positive peer interaction and inclusion in group activities.
- Accompany and support the student during assemblies, lunch, activities, field trips, and other school events when required.
- Maintain brief records of the student's progress, challenges, and observations.
- Communicate regularly with the class teacher and special educator regarding the student's needs and progress.
- Participate in meetings with parents and the school's support team when required.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the student and family.
- Follow all school policies, safeguarding procedures, and professional boundaries.

Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification or training in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Autism, ADHD, Behaviour Management, or Inclusive Education is an advantage.
- Previous experience working with children with additional learning or developmental needs is preferred.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, emotional maturity, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, counsellors, and special educators.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Basic knowledge of child development and inclusive classroom practices.

- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- ADHD
- Specific Learning Disability (SLD)
- Speech and language difficulties
