Travel Consultant – After-Hours/Emergency Support
Job Type: Full-Time
Department: Travel Operations / After-Hours Support

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Travel Consultant – After-Hours/Emergency Support to join our travel operations team. This role is responsible for providing qualified, timely, and high-quality travel assistance to clients across Business Travel, Leisure, Retail, and Kensington Tours divisions.
The successful candidate will serve as a primary point of contact outside standard business hours, handling travel inquiries, urgent requests, flight disruptions, schedule changes, ticketing requirements, and emergency situations. The role requires strong knowledge of GDS systems, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional in time-sensitive situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for clients requiring after-hours travel assistance and emergency support.
- Provide prompt, professional, and effective solutions while following division-specific policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Handle travel transactions including new bookings, ticketing, reissues, exchanges, cancellations, and schedule changes.
- Utilize Sabre, Amadeus, and internal travel systems to manage client reservations and transactions accurately.
- Interpret and apply airline fare rules, ticketing policies, travel regulations, and supplier terms.
- Manage Irregular Operations (IROPs), including flight cancellations, delays, missed connections, schedule changes, and other travel disruptions.
- Assist clients with urgent changes to air, hotel, car rental, package, and other travel arrangements.
- Provide support for corporate travelers while ensuring compliance with client-specific travel policies.
- Prepare quotations and provide accurate travel options based on client requirements and applicable policies.
- Maintain accurate records of all customer interactions, including call notes, transaction details, follow-up requirements, and resolutions.
- Monitor and manage queues,
pending requests, and follow-up activities to ensure timely completion.
- Coordinate with Destination Management Companies (DMCs), airlines, hotels, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve client requirements.
- Ensure all transactions comply with applicable company policies, airline rules, fare conditions, and regulatory requirements.
- Meet established service levels, productivity targets, response times, and quality standards.
- Stay up to date with airline policies, industry developments, GDS functionality, travel regulations, and internal procedures.
- Escalate complex or critical issues appropriately while maintaining ownership of the client experience.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in leisure travel, corporate travel, business travel, or a similar travel operations environment.
- Previous experience in after-hours, emergency travel support, or a travel call center environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong experience with air travel reservations, ticketing, reissues, exchanges, and schedule changes.
- Experience supporting corporate and/or leisure travelers in a quick-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer-service and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in time-sensitive and high-pressure situations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Technical Skills & GDS Knowledge
- Demonstrated proficiency in Sabre and Amadeus GDS.
- Strong knowledge of airline reservations and ticketing procedures.
- Experience with ticket reissues, exchanges, cancellations, refunds, and fare construction.
- Good understanding of airline fare rules and ticketing policies.
- Working knowledge of BSP (Billing and Settlement Plan) processes.
- Experience managing commissions for Canadian and United States points of sale is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other travel/booking-related systems is an asset.
Operational Expertise The ideal candidate will have proven experience in:
- Irregular Operations (IROPs) and airline disruption management.
- Flight cancellations, delays, missed connections, and schedule changes.
- Corporate travel policy compliance.
- Air, hotel, car rental, and package bookings.
- Emergency travel arrangements and urgent client requests.
- Working with airlines, hotels, DMCs, and other travel suppliers.
- Managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and service quality.
