The company is confidential at this stage. We are partnering with them on this hire, and you will be told exactly who it is before anything with your name on it goes anywhere near them. You decide at that point, not before.

What the job is

End to end product design across three surfaces that behave nothing alike: television, web and mobile. TV is the compelling one. Ten feet away, a remote with five useful buttons, and no hover state to hide behind.

You would sit in a design team of about 30 that spans product design, UX research, design standards and a creative studio. In practice that means you define the problem with product managers rather than receive it, work with researchers and data scientists on what to measure, and stay with a flow from first sketch to what ships.

Who this is for

Five to seven years designing consumer products. TV or living room experience is welcome and not required. What matters more is that you have owned something complex on your own, under a real deadline, and can explain the calls you made without a deck.

What we actually read

Two or three pieces of work, in whatever form you have them. For each one:

- what the problem was, in plain words
- what you decided, and what you dropped to do it
- what happened after it shipped, and how you know

Screens on their own tell us very little. A screen with the reasoning attached tells us everything. If your best work is under NDA, say so and describe it. We will not hold that against you. And one short paragraph in your own words on why this role, now. Not why you are a good designer.



Why this one.

What happens after you apply A person reads the whole thing, including your resume, and opens every link you send. If it fits, we write to you with the company named and the story we would put in front of them, in your words, with your evidence attached. Nothing reaches them until you say yes to that company by name.

If it does not fit, we tell you that too, in one short email, without a lecture.

What we will not do

We will never ask you for money. Not a fee, not a deposit, not a payment for training, registration, documents or a "profile boost", at any stage, for any reason. If anyone claiming to work with us asks you for money, it is not us. We also do not promise anyone a job. We can put your work in front of the people hiring and tell the truth about it. The decision is always theirs.

We do not apply on your behalf, and we do not sell your details.

What Charlie isMost hiring reads a resume for keywords and a score. We read what you have actually done and write the story of it, in your own words, with the evidence attached. That story is the only thing we put in front of a company. It is what we sell, and it is why the list stays short.

Two things worth deciding before this goes up:

1. The form must ask for years and notice period. The last designer form did not, and years had to be read out of resumes, which is slower and sometimes wrong.
2. Make the consent checkbox required. 27 of 159 applicants on the previous designer form never ticked it, so they can never be contacted. That is 17% lost at the bottom of a page.
