Role Purpose
To lead the overall electrical function for Pellet Plant 2 (PP2), ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical systems and equipment. The role will be responsible for electrical maintenance, reliability, shutdown management, energy optimization, project coordination, and development of the electrical team.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Reliability
- Lead the overall electrical maintenance function for Pellet Plant 2.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of HT/LT electrical systems and critical plant equipment.
- Plan and monitor preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Ensure reliable operation of HT/LT switchgear, transformers, MCCs, PCCs, motors, VFDs, drives, UPS, battery systems, and electrical distribution networks.
- Analyse recurring equipment failures and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation.
- Monitor equipment health and develop reliability improvement strategies.
Power Distribution & Electrical Systems
- Ensure reliable operation of PP2's electrical distribution system, including HT substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and LT distribution.
- Monitor load management, power quality, electrical losses, and system performance.
- Ensure effective coordination and protection settings for electrical systems.
- Oversee electrical systems for critical equipment such as balling discs, conveyors, crushers, screens, fans, pumps, compressors, and material handling systems.
Projects & Commissioning
- Provide technical leadership for electrical projects, modifications, expansions, and equipment upgrades in PP2.
- Review electrical engineering documents including SLDs, load schedules, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and layouts.
- Coordinate installation, testing, energization, and commissioning of new electrical systems.
- Ensure project execution meets approved scope, quality, schedule, cost, and safety requirements.
Shutdown & Maintenance Planning
- Lead annual and major plant shutdown planning and execution for electrical systems.
- Ensure availability of manpower, tools, equipment, and critical spares for shutdown activities.
- Monitor shutdown progress and ensure timely restoration of equipment.
- Review post-shutdown performance and implement improvement actions.
Energy Management
- Drive initiatives for electrical energy optimization and reduction of specific power consumption.
- Monitor power consumption trends and identify energy-saving opportunities.
- Support implementation of energy-efficient motors, drives, power systems, and operating practices.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety standards, PTW, LOTO, statutory electrical requirements, and plant safety procedures.
- Ensure periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations.
- Lead electrical safety audits and ensure closure of observations.
- Promote safe working practices among employees and contractors.
Team & Contractor Management
- Lead and mentor the electrical engineering and maintenance team.
- Develop technical capability through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Manage contractors and ensure compliance with technical, safety, and quality requirements.
- Establish clear performance objectives and monitor team KPIs.
Spares, Budget & Cost Management
- Ensure availability of critical electrical spares and develop appropriate inventory strategies.
- Review and approve technical specifications for electrical spares and equipment.
- Prepare and monitor annual maintenance budgets and control maintenance expenditure.
- Drive cost reduction through standardization, alternate sourcing, refurbishment, and reliability improvement.
Documentation & Governance
- Ensure effective maintenance documentation, equipment history, SOPs, electrical drawings, and statutory records.
- Monitor electrical maintenance KPIs and prepare periodic MIS for management.
- Ensure compliance with internal audits, statutory inspections, and applicable electrical standards.
Educational Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
- M.Tech / MBA / relevant management qualification will be an added advantage.
- Statutory electrical competency certification will be preferred.
Experience
- 18–25 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance/projects in Pellet Plants, Integrated Steel Plants, Power Plants, or other heavy process industries.
- Solid experience in managing large-scale industrial electrical systems and teams.
- Experience in Pellet Plant operations, commissioning, or expansion projects will be strongly preferred.
