Position: Marine Risk Consultant - Risk Engineering

Work Location : Pune / Trivandrum

Position Description The Insurance Marine Risk Consultant - Risk Engineering is responsible for providing specialist marine risk engineering, loss prevention, and risk consulting services to support clients, brokers, claims teams, and internal stakeholders. The role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating marine-related risks through risk assessments, surveys, inspections, loss analyses, risk improvement programs, and technical consulting across Marine Cargo, Hull & Machinery, Marine Liabilities, Ports & Terminals, Project Cargo, and related marine operations.

Experience Required :

1. Minimum 5-10 years of experience in Marine Risk Engineering, Marine Surveying, Loss Prevention, Maritime Operations, or a related field.
2. Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, surveys, inspections, and technical consulting within the marine industry.
3. Previous client-facing experience within marine, transportation, logistics, ports and terminals, or insurance risk engineering environments.
4. Insurance loss control or risk engineering experience is highly desirable.

Qualifications :

- Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Engineering, Maritime Studies, or a related technical discipline.
- Master Mariner qualification preferred. On board rank as Chief Officer acceptable if having strong technical skills as above.
- Professional qualifications in marine surveying,



risk engineering, transportation risk management, or loss prevention would be advantageous.

Job Role :

- Risk Assessments

- Conduct detailed risk assessments for Marine Cargo, Hull & Machinery, Ports & Terminals, Marine Liability, and Project Cargo risks as a Desk top reviews .
- Evaluate operational exposures, identify hazards, assess risk controls, and provide practical loss prevention recommendations.
- Perform risk engineering reviews and assessments of ports, terminals, harbors, logistics operations, and marine related facilities.
- Analyze loss trends and claims information to identify recurring issues and recommend corrective actions.

2. Risk Consulting Services
- Design and deliver customized risk improvement and loss prevention programs for clients and prospective accounts.
- Provide technical risk consulting support to clients, brokers, claims teams, and business stakeholders on marine risk management matters.
- Support business continuity, operational resilience, cargo security, and transportation risk management initiatives.

3. Survey & Inspection Activities
- Conduct marine surveys, site inspections, and operational assessments to evaluate marine and logistics risks.
- Review survey findings, prepare risk engineering reports, and develop actionable recommendations for risk improvement.
- Monitor implementation of recommendations and support clients in enhancing risk control standards.

4. Reporting & Technical Guidance
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, risk assessments, and executive summaries within agreed timelines.
- Develop technical bulletins, best-practice documents, lessons learned publications, and industry guidance on marine risk topics.
- Maintain awareness of emerging risks, industry developments, regulatory requirements, and market trends affecting marine operations.

5. Loss Prevention & Claims Support




- Support major loss investigations by identifying root causes, contributing technical expertise, and recommending mitigation measures.
- Review significant losses and loss data to identify opportunities for improving client risk management practices.

6. Third-Party Management
- Coordinate and manage specialist surveyors, consultants, and external service providers globally.
- Monitor quality, consistency, budgets, and performance of third-party risk service providers.

7. Stakeholder Engagement & Knowledge Sharing
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, brokers, claims teams, service providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Deliver technical workshops, webinars, client presentations, and training sessions on marine risk engineering and loss prevention topics.
- Contribute to the development and sharing of technical expertise and best practices across the organization.
