Head of Fundraising & Grants
Floaid MedTech Pvt. Ltd. | IIT Madras Research Park, Chennai | Full-time
About FloaidFloaid MedTech is building India's first indigenous cardiac assist devices. Our portfolio includes the FLOCATH percutaneous ventricular assist device (a catheter pump for high-risk angioplasty and cardiogenic shock, priced at roughly one-sixth of the only global competitor) and the Floex 3.0 Heart Lung Machine, now approaching commercial launch. We have completed acute animal trials, filed 9 patents with 15 more in the pipeline, generated early revenue, and are backed by ArtPark (IISc Bangalore) and an investor-led cap table.
Our co-founder, Dr. KR Balakrishnan, has performed one of the highest heart and lung transplants in Asia.
We are entering a capital-intensive phase: GLP animal studies in India and abroad, first-in-human trials, CDSCO manufacturing licences, and a GMP facility at SIPCOT Medical Devices Park, Oragadam. Over the next 24 months we need to raise funds against equity, government grants, and non-dilutive programmes. This role owns that outcome.
The RoleYou will lead all capital-raising for Floaid — equity, grants, debt, and CSR — reporting directly to the CEO. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor leadership role: you will build the pipeline, write the applications, run the data room, and sit in the room with investors. You will be the second person, after the CEO, whom investors and grant agencies know by name.
What You Will DoVenture and strategic capital (approx. 50%)
• Own the Series A process end to end: target list, outreach, narrative, deck and model support, data room, term-sheet negotiation support, and closing coordination with legal and finance.
• Build and maintain relationships with Indian and international VCs, family offices, MedTech-focused funds, strategic investors (device majors, hospital groups), PSU and government-linked investors, and HNI networks.
• Prepare and continuously refresh the investment materials: pitch deck, financial model, use-of-funds, cap table scenarios, competitive landscape, and regulatory timeline.
• Run investor updates and manage existing shareholder communications alongside the CEO.
Grants and non-dilutive funding (approx. 35%)
• Identify, prioritise, and apply for Indian schemes: BIRAC (BIG, SBIRI, PACE, SEED), DST/TDB, DBT, ICMR, Startup India Seed Fund, MeitY, Tamil Nadu StartupTN and TANSIM, SIPCOT/TIDCO incentives, and PLI/medical-device park schemes.
• Pursue international funding: Wellcome Trust, Gates Foundation, Grand Challenges, NIH/NIBIB (via partners), Horizon Europe and EIC (via consortia), Australian MRFF/R&D; tax incentive (for our CardioBionic partnership), and bilateral programmes (Indo-Australian, Indo-German, Indo-UK).
• Write and submit complete, compliant applications; coordinate technical inputs from the engineering and clinical teams; manage budgets, milestones, utilisation certificates, and audits for awarded grants.
• Structure CSR funding (Schedule VII, Companies Act 2013) for the Floaid Research Foundation's cardiovascular innovation hub and manufacturing infrastructure.
Debt, incentives and other instruments (approx. 15%)
• Evaluate venture debt, SIDBI and bank facilities, and state industrial incentives (capital subsidy, SGST concessions, stamp duty exemptions) for the Oragadam facility.
• Support the CEO on corporate partnerships and licensing discussions where they carry a funding component.
What We Are Looking ForMust-have
• 2-5 years in fundraising, investment banking, VC, corporate development, or startup finance, with at least 2 years of direct exposure to venture capital processes (either side of the table).
• A track record of closing: you have personally been material to at least one equity round (INR 10 Cr / USD 1M+) and at least one substantial grant award.
• Working knowledge of the Indian grant ecosystem (BIRAC, DST, DBT, ICMR) and demonstrated experience submitting applications, not just knowing they exist.
• Financial fluency:
you can build and defend a five-year model, a cap table with dilution scenarios, and a use-of-funds table.
• Exceptional written English; you will write applications and investor memos that get read by people who read hundreds.
• Comfort operating in a small, rapid, founder-led company where you build the function from scratch.
Strongly preferred
• Experience in MedTech, deep-tech, or life sciences; understanding of CDSCO / FDA / CE regulatory milestones and how they map to valuation inflection points.
• Existing relationships with Indian healthcare and deep-tech investors, and with programme officers at BIRAC or DST.
• Exposure to international grant bodies and cross-border structures (Australia, Europe, US).
• MBA, CA, CFA, or equivalent; a science or engineering undergraduate degree is a plus.
Who you are
• A finisher. Applications are long, deadlines are hard, and investors go quiet — you keep every thread alive.
- Credible across disciplines. Comfortable with surgeons, engineers, and investors alike; able to translate a hemolysis result or a CDSCO Class D pathway into an investment thesis.
- Low ego, high ownership. You are as happy formatting a utilisation certificate as you are negotiating a term sheet.
What Success Looks Like in 12 Months• Series A closed on terms aligned with the board's plan.
- At least two non-dilutive awards secured (Indian or international) covering a meaningful share of GLP animal study and clinical trial costs.
- A live, well-maintained investor pipeline of 50+ qualified contacts with monthly investor updates going out on schedule.
- Grant compliance and reporting for all awarded funds running without exceptions.
CompensationCompetitive fixed salary commensurate with experience, plus a performance-linked component tied to funds raised, plus ESOPs.
