Role Summary We are seeking a dedicated Data Engineer for a 3-month part-time engagement (20 hours per week) to support enterprise data engineering and reporting modernization. The primary goal is to migrate daily scheduled reporting from a legacy Crystal Reports environment onto a modern Python/FastAPI web platform. Additional responsibilities include daily operational monitoring, legacy reporting maintenance, and web platform feature enhancements.

All work is conducted in development and test environments.

Role Parameters

- Term: 3 months (13 weeks / 260 total hours), with potential option to extend based on results.
- Capacity: Part-time, 20 hours per week.
- Location: Remote / Offshore.
- Schedule: Requires a daily 2-hour working overlap with US Central morning hours for team syncs and pairing.

Key Responsibilities

- Scheduled Report Migration
- Map and validate specs from Crystal Reports to the new web reporting platform.
- Build and adjust specs including columns, filters, parameters, grouping, and dynamic date logic.
- Perform value-parity verification (row counts, totals, spot values) against live legacy outputs.
- Configure platform schedules, output formats (Excel/PDF), and recipient delivery lists.
- Execute parallel-run comparisons and document migration evidence.
- Daily Operations & Monitoring
- Triage daily service-account inbox failure notices and flag failed automation steps.
- Monitor daily dataflow refreshes and rerun low-risk, reversible failed refreshes.




- Review scheduler error logs and resolve database-logon errors using established procedures.
- Execute validated report recipes for recurring customer production.
- Legacy Report Maintenance & Runbooks
- Perform Crystal Report modifications in dev/test (facility variants, parameter additions, formatting fixes).
- Conduct template naming sweeps across report files.
- Maintain report catalogs, inventories, and version-controlled source files.
- Convert handoff notes into clear, stepwise technical runbooks.
- Web Platform Enhancements
- Implement UI/UX polish and portal features using Python (FastAPI) based on user feedback.
- Write automated unit/integration tests alongside code updates using the existing test suite.
- Support database migration preparation and deployment pipeline tasks.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Database & SQL: Solid experience writing and optimizing SQL queries against Oracle databases (specifically WMS reporting views).
- Python Development: Hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI to build and maintain APIs, web portals, and background workers.
- Legacy BI Tools: Experience using Crystal Reports Designer (.rpt files) for layout checks, spec extraction, and template modifications.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Experience writing automated test suites in Python and performing data parity comparisons.
- Documentation & Communication: Strong written English skills with experience writing technical SOPs, runbooks, and status updates.
