Job DescriptionBlack Diamond Media & Production Pvt. Ltd. is looking for an experienced and visionary Creative Director to take complete ownership of the creative direction of our 3D animation projects.
The Creative Director will be responsible for guiding the project from story and storyboard development to camera direction, layout, art direction, character presentation, environments, animation, lighting, VFX, compositing, and final visual output.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in visual storytelling, cinematography, animation, composition, art direction, and 3D production workflows, along with the ability to lead creative teams and maintain a consistent artistic vision throughout production.
Key ResponsibilitiesCreative Direction
- Take complete ownership of the overall creative vision and visual direction of assigned projects.
- Define the project's visual style, tone, mood, look, and feel.
- Establish creative standards and ensure consistency across the entire production.
- Translate stories, scripts, and concepts into engaging visual experiences.
- Review and approve creative work at major production stages.
- Identify creative gaps and provide practical solutions.
Story & • Storyboarding
- Work closely with writers and creative teams to understand and strengthen the story.
- Guide the development of storyboards and visual storytelling.
- Provide direction on staging, pacing, character expressions, actions, and scene composition.
- Ensure every sequence clearly communicates the intended story and emotion.
- Review storyboards and provide detailed creative feedback.
- Identify potential production issues during the storyboard stage and resolve them early.
- Maintain continuity across shots and sequences.
Camera Direction & • Cinematography
- Take ownership of the project's camera language and cinematography.
- Decide camera angles, framing, shot sizes, perspective, lens choices, camera movements, and composition.
- Guide Layout and Camera Artists in achieving the intended visual result.
- Ensure camera choices enhance storytelling, emotion, action, comedy, drama, or suspense.
- Maintain cinematic continuity throughout scenes and sequences.
- Review and approve camera layouts before animation progresses.
Art Direction
- Establish and maintain the overall art direction and visual identity of the project.
- Guide the development of characters, props, backgrounds, environments, colors, materials, and visual details.
- Work closely with Concept, Modeling, Texturing, Background, Lighting, Animation, and Compositing teams.
- Review artwork and provide clear, actionable feedback.
- Ensure visual consistency across episodes, characters, environments, and sequences.
- Maintain the established artistic style and quality benchmarks.
Character Direction
- Guide the visual presentation and on-screen portrayal of characters.
- Ensure consistency in character proportions, expressions, poses, personality, and visual identity.
- Work with Storyboard and Animation teams on character acting and performance.
- Provide creative direction on poses, expressions, body language, staging, and performance.
- Review key character shots and sequences for creative quality.
Background & • Environment Direction
- Oversee the creative development of backgrounds and environments.
- Guide Environment and Background Artists on composition, scale, depth, set dressing, and visual storytelling.
- Ensure environments complement the characters and action.
- Ensure effective use of foreground, midground, and background elements.
- Review environment designs and final scene setups.
Animation Direction
- Work closely with Animation Leads and Animators to maintain the creative vision.
- Review important animation shots and sequences.
- Provide direction on acting, timing, posing, expressions, movement, staging, and performance.
- Ensure character performances are consistent with the story and personality.
- Review key shots and provide feedback for improvement.
Lighting, VFX & • Compositing
- Collaborate with Lighting, VFX, and Compositing teams to achieve the desired visual mood.
- Provide direction on lighting, atmosphere, color, depth, effects, and final image quality.
- Ensure lighting supports the mood and storytelling of each sequence.
- Review final lighting, VFX, and compositing outputs.
- Ensure the final render matches the established art direction.
Creative Quality Control
- Conduct regular creative reviews throughout production.
- Review assets, shots, sequences, and final outputs against established quality standards.
- Identify issues related to storytelling, camera, art, animation, lighting, composition, and visual quality.
- Provide clear and constructive feedback.
- Ensure revisions are completed before final approval.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor the creative team across multiple departments.
- Work closely with Storyboard Artists, Concept Artists, 3D Artists, Animators, Layout Artists, Lighting Artists, Compositors, VFX Artists, and Production Managers.
- Communicate creative expectations clearly.
- Conduct creative review sessions and provide constructive feedback.
- Encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving.
- Ensure individual departments understand and contribute to the overall creative vision.
Production Coordination
- Coordinate with the Production Manager and Project Management team to align creative requirements with production schedules.
- Understand production limitations and provide practical creative solutions.
- Prioritize creative requirements based on project importance and deadlines.
- Participate in production planning, milestone reviews, and creative meetings.
- Ensure creative decisions support both quality and production efficiency.
Required Skills & • Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional experience in 3D Animation, VFX, Games, or related creative industries.
- Strong experience in Creative Direction and Visual Storytelling.
- Excellent understanding of storyboarding, cinematography, camera composition, and visual language.
- Strong knowledge of 3D animation production pipelines.
- Positive understanding of Modeling, Texturing, Layout, Animation, Lighting, VFX, and Compositing workflows.
- Strong understanding of art direction and visual development.
- Excellent eye for detail, composition, color, proportion, and aesthetics.
- Ability to interpret scripts and convert them into effective visual sequences.
- Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide clear and actionable feedback.
- Ability to manage multiple creative priorities while working within deadlines.

The candidate does not need to be an expert in every software, but should have a strong understanding of the overall production workflow. Ideal CandidateWe are looking for someone who can take complete creative ownership of a project, rather than focusing only on one department.
The ideal candidate should be able to look at a story and determine:
- How should the scene look?
- How should it be staged?
- Where should the camera be?
- How should the characters perform?
- What should the environment communicate?
- What should the audience feel?
- How should the production team execute the creative vision?
The candidate should be a strong visual storyteller, creative decision-maker, team leader, and problem solver capable of maintaining quality from the first storyboard through the final rendered frame. Portfolio / ShowreelA strong portfolio and showreel is mandatory.
Relevant work in Storyboarding, Camera & Layout, Visual Storytelling, Art Direction, Character Animation, Environment Design, Cinematic Shots, and 3D Animation Production will be highly preferred.
