Role & responsibilities

1. Coal Procurement & Fuel Planning

- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual coal requirement plans based on generation schedules and stock position.
- Monitor coal availability against plant consumption patterns and maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Coordinate with procurement and commercial teams for coal sourcing from domestic and imported suppliers.
- Support coal purchase planning, spot procurement, and emergency fuel sourcing activities.

2. Domestic Coal Management

- Coordinate with coal companies such as MCL, SECL, WCL, CCL, etc. for coal allocation and lifting.
- Monitor activities related to Fuel Supply Agreements (FSA), ACQ and coal linkage compliance.
- Track coal allocation, rake allotment, lifting performance, and dispatch schedules.
- Coordinate with railway authorities for rake placement, movement, and unloading.
- Maintain records related to domestic coal procurement, lifting, and reconciliation

3. Imported Coal Management

- Coordinate with suppliers, traders, ports, and shipping agencies for imported coal procurement.
- Monitor vessel schedules, berthing plans, unloading progress, and cargo evacuation.
- Ensure timely movement of imported coal from port to plant.
- Coordinate quality inspections, draft surveys, and cargo reconciliation activities.
- Monitor freight, demurrage, and logistics-related issues.

4. Coal Logistics Management

- Monitor coal transportation through vessel, rail, and road modes.
- Coordinate with transport contractors, railways, port authorities, and logistics service providers.
- Ensure smooth evacuation of coal from port to plant.
- Monitor truck deployment,



dispatch efficiency, turnaround time, and transportation losses.
- Track rake movements and ensure timely unloading at the plant.

5. Coal Inventory & Stock Management

- Monitor daily coal stock position at port and plant.
- Maintain stock reconciliation between book stock and physical stock.
- Ensure adequate coal availability to avoid generation loss due to fuel shortage.
- Analyze stock aging, stacking patterns, and inventory optimization opportunities.
- Monitor coal handling losses and transit losses.

6. Coal Quality Monitoring

- Coordinate coal sampling and testing activities.
- Monitor coal quality parameters such as GCV, moisture, ash, volatile matter, sulfur, and HGI.
- Analyse quality deviations and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Operations and CHP teams to achieve target blended coat quality.

7. Cost Optimization & Performance Monitoring

- Analyze landed coal cost, logistics cost, and fuel cost trends.
- Support initiatives for coal cost reduction and fuel optimization.
- Monitor specific coal consumption and coal quality impacts on generation cost.
- Evaluate alternate coal sourcing and logistics options.
- Participate in cost-benefit analyses and fuel strategy reviews.

Documentation & Compliance

- Maintain records related to coal procurement, logistics, contracts, invoices, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with FSA conditions, contractual obligations, and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate preparation of reports required by management, auditors, regulators, and government agencies.
- Support internal and external audit activities related to coal management.

9. MIS & Reporting

- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual coal management reports.
- Develop dashboards on coal stock, receipt, consumption, logistics performance, and cost trends.
- Present coal management status and action plans during management review meetings.
- Generate analytical reports for decision-making by senior management.

10. Stakeholder Coordination

Coordinate with:

- coal Companies (MCL, SECL, WCL, CCL, etc.)
- Railways
- Port Authorities
- Shipping Agents
- Logistics Contractors
- Operations Department
- CHP Department
- Finance & Commercial Teams
- Procurement Team
- Regulatory Authorities

Ensure timely resolution of operational and commercial issues affecting coal supply.

Preferred candidate profile Graduate with 5-15 yrs of experience in similar role.
