CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client is a large, listed building materials company — a leading player in tiles, marble, and surfaces — entering a defined phase of transformation spanning manufacturing efficiency, supply chain resilience, digital operations, and brand repositioning toward premium, design-led categories.
The Chief Technology Officer will be the architect of the company's digital backbone, with the build of a new technology platform to run the company's D2C franchise business as the flagship mandate — the system that will power store operations, billing, commissions, and franchisee onboarding as the network scales nationally. This role partners directly with the MD & CEO and works closely with the Board on technology strategy, platform investment, and digital risk.
This is a rare build mandate: the opportunity to design a technology function from a position of real momentum — building the franchise platform from the ground up, modernizing legacy systems, standing up new digital products for trade and design audiences, and establishing the data and engineering discipline a premium industrial brand needs to compete on experience, not just price.
THE ROLE
D2C Franchise Platform — Build & Ownership
Design and build the company's new technology platform to run its D2C franchise business end to end — covering store-level POS and billing, inventory and dispatch integration, commission calculation and payouts, franchisee onboarding, and performance dashboards for both franchisees and head office. This platform is the operating backbone for a nationally scaling franchise network and the single highest-priority build in the technology roadmap.
Technology Strategy & Roadmap
Define and own the company's multi-year technology roadmap — covering core systems (ERP, CRM, POS), digital products for architects and dealers,
manufacturing and supply chain technology, and data infrastructure. Translate business priorities into a sequenced, resourced technology plan the Board can back with confidence.
Digital Platform Modernization
Lead the redesign and modernization of the company's core digital estate, including its website and trade platforms, moving legacy systems onto modern, scalable architecture. Own the build of digital products — specification tools, project collaboration platforms, and visualization tools — that serve architects, designers, and trade partners directly.
Data, Infrastructure & Systems Architecture
Establish the company's data architecture — a single source of truth spanning sales, inventory, franchise operations, and customer data — enabling real-time visibility for leadership and better decision-making across functions. Own platform reliability, security, and scalability as the franchise network and digital footprint grow.
Engineering Team & Vendor Leadership
Build and lead an in-house engineering and product function, complemented by the right mix of specialist vendors and development partners. Set engineering standards, hiring bar, and delivery discipline for a team that will scale with the franchise rollout.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Work closely with sales, marketing, manufacturing, and franchise operations to ensure the platform and broader technology investments map directly to commercial outcomes — faster franchisee onboarding,
tighter store-level visibility, cleaner commission reconciliation, and a stronger digital brand experience.
Governance, Security & Risk
Own technology governance, cybersecurity posture, and data privacy compliance at a listed-company standard, reporting regularly to the Board on risk, capability, and platform performance.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Successful design and launch of the D2C franchise platform, live across the store network
- Reduced onboarding time and manual overhead for new franchisees
- Accurate, automated commission calculation and payout, replacing manual reconciliation
- A modernized core technology stack replacing legacy systems within a defined timeline
- A unified data architecture giving leadership real-time visibility across the business
- A scaled, high-performing in-house engineering and product function
- Robust security, uptime, and compliance posture appropriate to a listed company
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 10+ years in technology leadership, with at least 4-5 years in a CTO, VP Engineering, or equivalent senior technology role
- A track record of building platforms that run multi-location retail or franchise operations — POS, billing, commissions, or store operations software — from the ground up
- Strong command of contemporary web and data architecture, with the judgment to balance build vs. buy decisions
- Experience building and leading engineering teams, including managing external development partners
- Comfort operating in a legacy-to-modern transition environment — pragmatic about sequencing, not just greenfield ideation
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technology strategy for a Board and non-technical leadership
- Engineering or Computer Science degree; advanced degree a plus but not required
