AI Platform Engineer
Med2Measure is hiring a founding AI platform engineer. You will turn peer-reviewed medical science into production software that doctors use, with genuine end-to-end ownership from Day 1. We are an AI-first platform that measures disease from visual and clinical signals to guide treatment decisions and research.
An introduction to us:
We are building tools that measure disease from visual and clinical signals that will guide treatment decisions and research. Clinical measurement is crucial in medicine and medical research, yet it remains manual, subjective and siloed. We are rethinking it by harnessing AI to turn such visual information into automated quantitative data pipelines, so that measurements become democratized, auditable and scalable.
Where do you fit in?
You will be our first in-house technical hire, with genuine end-to-end ownership over architecture, tooling, and delivery. As a founding engineer you get to don multiple hats: systems architect, ML engineer, DevOps lead, security engineer, and product thinker, gaining breadth that would take years to accumulate at a larger company. The work also offers co-authorship in publications, opportunities for medical conference presentations, new collaborations, and access to clinical data.
The problem we're hiring for:
Rheumatologists manage diseases like rheumatoid arthritis that produce inflammation and deformity in joints. Treatment depends on how active the disease is. Disease activity is measured using composite scores like DAS28, which require counting swollen and tender joints, incorporating lab values, and recording patient-reported health.
Today, this process is manual, repetitive, and subjective. The clinical expertise to do it well is restricted to a few specialist practitioners, making it hard to scale or standardize.
The Solution:
We've been training AI models (developed in collaboration with a computational biology lab at IISER Pune) that read visual signals from photographs of joint areas to assess inflammation. The science is peer-reviewed. Now we are building the production platform around it, which will enable real-world scale, and take the tedious, subjective parts off the clinician's hands.
The platform will automate joint-level assessment from photographs, assembling all inputs (tender joints, lab values, patient-reported health) into a complete DAS28 score. The architecture will scale across clinics and patient volumes without compromising accuracy. What works for a few rheumatologists today should work for thousands tomorrow.
The platform will also have the technical foundation for regulatory certification built-in: access control, audit trails, data governance, model versioning, and documentation that satisfies medical device standards.
Your role:
Transform the prototype platform to production level, maintain it, and keep end-to-end testing current so clinicians can use it seamlessly every day.
High level responsibilities
- Production infrastructure: Migrate the current prototype (hosting, DevOps, workflow engine) into a production-grade environment built for scalability and uptime.
- Data & compute pipelines: Architect flexible ingestion and compute pipelines that can accommodate multiple models and use cases as the platform expands.
- Test automation: Build an end-to-end automated test harness covering unit,
smoke, regression, integration, and use-case-level testing.
- Hardware integration: Coordinate with the data acquisition device teams on upgrade initiatives and ensure integration testing covers each hardware revision.
- Regulatory documentation: Create and maintain the technical documentation required for regulatory certification, guided by domain experts.
Who you'll work with
You will be part of the founding team and will work directly with clinician collaborators on clinical questions, with the IISER lab on the science and the harder infrastructure, and with experienced engineers at our technical partner who provide day-to-day technical direction and review.
What we're looking for:
- At least 3 years of system design experience in a product development company
- Strong understanding of applied machine learning and computer vision skills
- End to end understanding of the product – module integration, hardware interface, flexibility and scalability is utmost important.
- Robust sense of end user mindset: you care that a clinician finds the tool clear and trustworthy
- Engineering discipline: version control, reproducibility, clean handoffs.
- Comfortable owning and maintaining your own compute environment (you're not helpless with hardware, drivers, or storage)
- Comfort with messy, real-world data
- Genuine interest in working alongside clinicians on real medical problems
Helpful but not required: front-end or UI experience, model deployment, medical or scientific imaging, building annotation or data tooling.
