Role Purpose

To lead the Stores function and ensure effective management of material receipt, storage, preservation, inventory control, and issue across the plant. The role is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted availability of critical materials and spares while optimizing inventory, working capital, storage space, and operational costs.

Key Responsibilities

Stores & Warehouse Operations

- Lead end-to-end Central Stores operations, including material receipt, inspection, storage, preservation, issue, return, transfer, and disposal.

- Ensure timely availability of critical spares, consumables, engineering materials, and plant requirements.

- Establish effective binning, codification, tagging, identification, and location management systems.

- Ensure proper material handling, stacking, storage, and preservation practices.

- Monitor receipt of materials against Purchase Orders and resolve quantity, quality, and documentation discrepancies.

- Ensure timely and accurate issue of materials against authorized requisitions.

Inventory Management

- Drive optimum inventory levels through effective management of minimum/maximum levels, reorder levels, safety stock, and critical spares.

- Monitor inventory ageing and identify slow-moving, non-moving, surplus, and obsolete materials.

- Develop and implement strategies for inventory reduction and working-capital optimization.

- Ensure periodic physical verification, cycle counting, reconciliation, and inventory accuracy.

- Monitor critical and insurance spares to ensure availability for uninterrupted plant operations.

- Drive standardization and rationalization of spares and consumables.

Materials Planning & Coordination

- Coordinate closely with Purchase, Maintenance, Production, Projects, Finance, and user departments to ensure material availability.

- Provide inputs for material planning based on consumption trends, maintenance schedules, shutdown plans, and project requirements.





- Work with Purchase to develop appropriate procurement plans for critical and long-lead materials.

- Identify potential stock-out risks and ensure timely mitigation.

Systems & Process Excellence

- Ensure accurate and timely transactions in SAP MM / ERP for material receipt, issue, transfer, return, and stock adjustments.

- Ensure accuracy and integrity of material master data, codes, storage locations, and inventory records.

- Develop Stores MIS, dashboards, and inventory analytics for management review.

- Drive digitization, automation, and process improvements within Stores.

- Establish and continuously improve SOPs, workflows, and internal controls.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

- Coordinate with Purchase and suppliers regarding material deliveries, shortages, quality issues, and documentation.

- Resolve material-related issues impacting plant operations.

- Coordinate with Finance for inventory valuation, reconciliation, provisions, and audit requirements.

- Ensure effective coordination with all user departments for material requirements and inventory optimization.

Governance, Audit & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with company procurement and stores policies, delegation of authority, SOPs, and internal controls.

- Lead internal and external stores audits and ensure timely closure of observations.

- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of all material transactions.

- Maintain adequate controls for high-value, critical, hazardous, and sensitive materials.

- Ensure compliance with safety requirements related to material handling, storage, and warehouse operations.

Team Leadership

- Lead and develop the Stores team comprising engineers, officers, supervisors, and contract manpower.

- Plan manpower deployment across stores and warehouse operations.





- Establish team KPIs and monitor performance.

- Build capability in inventory management, SAP, analytics, material preservation, and stores best practices.

Educational Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial / Production Engineering or equivalent.

- MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain / Materials Management / Operations will be preferred.

Experience

- 15–20 years of relevant experience in Stores / Warehouse / Materials Management.

- Strong experience in Central Stores management within an integrated steel plant, heavy manufacturing, mining, power, or other large industrial setup.

- Experience in managing large engineering inventories, MRO spares, critical equipment spares, and consumables is essential.

- Proven experience in leading teams and driving inventory optimization initiatives.
