Shelar is a design-led start-up with a mission to build an Indian take on the accessible luxury handbags space. Our goal is to create designs inspired by Indian elements which are perfectly functional and become a part of the customer's everyday life.

Role Description:
This is a project-based, on-site role based in Mumbai for a Leather Handbags Design and Research professional.
Key responsibilities:
Research market trends, consumer preferences, and emerging materials to inform new handbag concepts
Develop design concepts, sketch and detail handbags
Collaborate with production teams to refine prototypes
Ensure designs align with brand identity and quality standards
Conduct user-focused studies, gather insights on usability and carrying comfort, and translate findings into improved design features
Work closely with cross-functional teams to iterate on designs and document specifications
Support the launch of recent handbag collections

Qualifications:
Proficiency in handbag design, including sketching,



material selection (especially leather), and detailing hardware and construction
Solid foundation in Design Thinking to structure handbag offerings and create cohesive product experiences
Understanding of fashion and accessories trends, with the ability to translate insights into commercially viable designs
Experience collaborating with manufacturing or artisans, including basic knowledge of leather cutting, stitching, and finishing processes
Strong visual communication skills and familiarity with design tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar software)
Ability to work on-site in Mumbai, manage multiple projects, and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams
Relevant degree or diploma in Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Product Design, or a related discipline is preferred
