Mechanical Design Engineer - Battery Module **Position Summary** Lead the mechanical design and simulation of battery modules from concept development through prototyping, validation, certification, and production release. Apply strong structural design, engineering mechanics, and simulation-driven engineering principles to develop robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective battery module solutions for Caterpillar applications. **Key Responsibilities** + Collaborate with Caterpillar machine and application teams tofinalizecustomer requirements, operating conditions, mechanical interfaces, packaging constraints, and validation requirements. + Develop battery module architecture, packaging, and detailed mechanical designs, including cell-retention and compression systems, structural components, mounting features, busbar supports, insulation components, cold plates, and overall module cooling solutions. + Integrate Cell Monitoring Units (CMUs), sensing components, electrical interconnects, busbars, and high-voltage and low-voltage harness interfaces into themodulemechanical architecture. + Account for cell dimensional variation, swelling, compression, thermal expansion,



electrical clearance and creepage, assembly requirements, and serviceability throughout the design. + Develop production-ready 3D models, assemblies, BOMs, material specifications, and mechanical interface requirements. + Apply GD&T; and perform tolerance stack-up and packaging analyses. + Select materials, mechanical joints, insulation systems, thermal-interface materials, sealing solutions, and manufacturing processes. + Perform structural, thermal, and thermo-mechanical simulations. + Correlate simulation results with physical test data. + Lead Design of Experiments (DoE). + Support DFM, DFA, DFMEA, DVP&R; andvalidation activities. + Resolve design, validation, supplier, and manufacturing issues. **Required Qualifications** + Bachelor's orMaster's degree in Mechanical Engineeringor related discipline. + Minimum three years of relevant experience in battery modules, battery packs, energy storage systems, power electronics, or electromechanical product development. + Strong fundamentals in structural design, engineering mechanics, strength of materials, mechanical joints, materialselection, tolerances, heat transfer, and manufacturing processes. + Demonstrated experience developing mechanical products from concept through production release. + Strong capability in 3D modelling, assembly design, mechanical packaging,



andcomponentintegration. + Hands-on experience with structural, thermal, or thermo-mechanical simulation. + Working knowledge of battery module architecture, cooling systems, insulation, electrical isolation, clearance and creepage, and electromechanical integration. + Familiarity with GD&T;, tolerance analysis, DFM, DFA, DFMEA, DVP&R;, PPAP, PLM, and engineering change processes. + Experience with cooling manifold design, coolant routing, sealing interfaces, or HV/LV harness design is preferred. + Strong technical problem-solving, engineering judgment, documentation, collaboration, and communication skills.
