The Assistant Manager – Traffic & Vehicle Operations will be responsible for the end-to-end management of vehicle placement, line-haul operations, vendor management, and route efficiency. This role requires robust negotiation skills, proactive tracking, and seamless coordination between customers, drivers, brokers, and internal teams to ensure timely dispatches and deliveries.
Key Responsibilities
1. FTL and PTL Vehicle Placement & Dispatch Tracking
- Placement & Allocation: Source and place Full Truck Load (FTL) and Part Truck Load (PTL) vehicles precisely as requested by the Sales team or directly by clients.
- En-Route Monitoring: Proactively follow up with drivers and brokers from the point of dispatch until the vehicle successfully reaches the client location.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect and ensure that all placed vehicles are in sound mechanical and physical condition before loading.
- Timeline Management: Coordinate closely with customers to ensure vehicles are loaded and dispatched on time, minimizing detention.
2. Line-Haul & Delivery Operations
- Route Operations: Monitor and manage line-haul vehicles across all existing routes, ensuring strict adherence to schedules and transit times.
- Unloading & Delivery:
Track the arrival and unloading of vehicles at destination points. Coordinate swiftly with customers/branches to resolve any delivery bottlenecks or delays.
- Documentation (POD): Ensure immediate digital retrieval (via WhatsApp/system) of Proof of Delivery (POD) upon unloading, and track the timely collection of physical hard copies.
3. Vendor Management & Commercials
- Vendor Development: Identify, onboard, and develop reliable transporter and broker networks across all operational territories.
- Rate Negotiation: Negotiate competitive freight rates with vendors, brokers, and client parties to optimize operational margins.
Profile Requirements
- Experience: A minimum of 8 to 10 years of core experience in fleet operations, traffic management, or line-haul coordination within the logistics/transport sector.
- Skills:
- Strong negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills to manage drivers, brokers, and corporate clients.
- Sharp problem-solving abilities to handle on-road delays, breakdowns, or placement shortages.
- Familiarity with regional transport routes and market freight rates.
