We are looking for a Home Automation Field Technician who can execute the on-site installation, wiring, configuration, testing and commissioning of smart home and automation systems.
The technician will work closely with the project manager, design team, electrical contractors and customers to ensure that every automation project is installed correctly, commissioned reliably and delivered with a high-quality customer experience.
The ideal candidate should be technically hands-on, comfortable working at project sites, willing to learn current technologies and capable of troubleshooting electrical, networking and automation-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation & Site Execution
Install home automation devices and control systems at residential and commercial project sites.
Install and terminate control wiring, communication cables, sensors and related accessories.
Install smart switches, dimmers, relays, controllers, sensors, thermostats, motorized curtain controls and other automation devices.
Assist with installation of lighting control, curtain/blind automation, HVAC control, access control, security and AV integration systems.
Ensure installation follows approved drawings, wiring diagrams and project specifications.
Maintain proper cable routing, labelling, termination and finishing.
2. System Configuration & Commissioning
Configure automation controllers, gateways, sensors and connected devices.
Program and test basic automation scenes, schedules, triggers and logic.
Configure devices on wired and wireless networks where required.
Integrate approved third-party devices into the automation ecosystem.
Test complete automation sequences before project handover.
Identify and rectify installation or configuration issues during commissioning.
3. Troubleshooting & Service
Diagnose electrical, communication, networking and automation-related faults.
Attend service calls and resolve technical issues at customer locations.
Replace faulty devices and components when required.
Perform preventive maintenance and system health checks.
Escalate complex programming, integration or hardware issues to the senior technical team.
4. Customer Handover
Demonstrate installed automation systems to customers.
Explain basic operation of switches, scenes, applications and controls.
Ensure customers understand the functionality delivered.
Maintain professional behaviour and communication while working inside customer premises.
Record customer feedback, pending issues and site observations.
5. Project Documentation
Maintain installation and commissioning checklists.
Record device installations, serial numbers and configuration details where required.
Report site progress and technical issues to the project manager.
Maintain photographs and documentation of completed work.
Update punch lists and close assigned technical tasks.
Required Technical Skills
Basic knowledge of electrical wiring and electrical safety.
Understanding of single-phase electrical systems.
Ability to read basic electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
Basic knowledge of networking — LAN, Wi-Fi, IP addresses and routers.
Understanding of switches, relays, sensors and low-voltage control systems.
Basic troubleshooting skills using a multimeter and other electrical testing tools.
Comfortable using mobile applications and configuration software.
Ability to learn new automation platforms and technologies quickly.
Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following will be an advantage:
Smart home automation
Lighting control
Motorized curtains/blinds
HVAC automation
Wi-Fi/networking
Access control
CCTV/security systems
Home theatre/AV systems
KNX, Control4, Crestron, Lutron or similar automation platforms
Electrical installation
Building management or integrated building systems
