Job Title: School Counsellor

Job Overview: A School Counsellor fosters students' academic, emotional, social,

and personal development. They provide guidance, support, and interventions to

help students navigate challenges and succeed in their academic and personal lives.

They help students manage their own behaviour, resolve conflicts and foster

emotional and mental well-being.

Responsibilities:

1. Student Counselling: Providing individual and group counselling to students to

help them address personal, social, and behavioural issues that may affect their

academic performance and well-being.

2. Academic Support: Assisting students in setting academic goals, developing

study skills, and addressing academic challenges. Collaborating with teachers and

parents to support student learning.

3. Crisis Intervention: Responding to crises or emergencies affecting students,

such as bereavement, trauma, or behavioral crises. Providing immediate support

and coordinating with school administrators, parents, and external agencies when

necessary.

4. Advocacy and Referrals: Advocating for students' needs within the school

community and referring students and families to external resources and services,

such as mental health professionals or community organizations.

Consultation and Collaboration: Collaborating with teachers, administrators,

and parents to address student needs and promote a positive school environment.

Providing insights and recommendations based on student assessments and

observations.

6. Educational and Career Development Programs: Planning and implementing

the Character Development Program related to personal development, social skills,

academic success, and career readiness. These include class sessions and

activities for students.

7. Facilitating Discussions: Leading classroom discussions and activities that

encourage critical thinking and reflection on moral dilemmas, ethical issues, and

personal values.

8. Role Modelling: Serving as a positive role model for students by demonstrating

values in practice and fostering a supportive and respectful classroom environment.

9. Documentation and Evaluation: Maintaining accurate records of counselling

sessions, assessments, and interventions. Evaluating the effectiveness of

counselling programs and interventions to make improvements as needed.

10. Parental Engagement: Communicating with parents and caregivers about the

importance of developing their character, discussing students' progress and

behavior, and encouraging reinforcement of values at home.

11. Admissions : Conducting observations and assessments for KG student

candidates and generating individual reports of their performance for new





admissions .

12. Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing career development to

stay updated on best practices in school counseling, relevant laws and regulations,

and emerging trends in education and counselling.

Overall, the role of a School Counsellor is multifaceted, aiming to support the holistic

development and well-being of students within the educational setting. They play a

crucial role in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment conducive to

academic success and personal growth.

Qualification/Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education, Social Work, or

related fields.

• A foundational understanding of human behaviour, child development, and

mental health is essential.

• Knowledge of Counselling theories, behavioural assessment, and

intervention strategies.

• Additional Certifications/Diplomas in child and adolescent counselling,

trauma-informed care, or mental health counselling

• Proficiency in individual and group counselling techniques

• Strong verbal and written communication for interactions with students,

parents, and staff.

• Active listening and empathy.

• Ability to manage schedules, maintain records, and coordinate programs

effectively.

• Capacity to work with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic

backgrounds.

• Skilled in addressing and resolving student conflicts, crises, and challenges.

• Familiarity with school regulations, child protection laws, and counselling

ethics.

• Patience, compassion, and adaptability.

• A genuine passion for working with children and adolescents.

• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.
