Job Summary:
This role involves independently managing GST litigation matters, representing clients before
departmental authorities, leading compliance and advisory engagements, and supervising
article students and team members. The ideal candidate will have solid technical
knowledge, drafting skills, and the ability to drive client relationships with professionalism and
ownership.
Key Responsibilities
1. GST Litigation & Representation
- Prepare replies to Show Cause Notices (SCNs), audit queries, DRC-01A/03
submissions, and other departmental communications.
- Draft appeals for the Appellate Authority, Appellate Tribunal (as applicable), and
advance ruling applications.
- Appear and represent clients before GST departmental authorities, enforcement
wings, audit teams, and appellate forums.
- Conduct litigation assessments and prepare strategies to mitigate client exposure and
risks.
- Review and analyse departmental notices to identify inconsistencies and prepare
arguments accordingly.
2. GST Advisory
- Provide technical advisory on complex GST issues, taxability, place of supply, ITC
eligibility, cross-charge, valuation, exemptions, etc.
- Support clients in GST planning, structuring transactions, and evaluating business
models from an IDT perspective.
- Keep clients updated on indirect tax law amendments, notifications, circulars, and
case laws.
3. GST Compliance Review
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual GST compliance tasks handled by the team.
- Review GST returns, reconciliations, input tax credit reports, and ledgers.
- Monitor statutory deadlines and ensure timely completion of compliance deliverables.
4. Client Handling & Relationship Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for allocated clients.
- Communicate litigation strategy, compliance gaps, advisory positions,
and
departmental updates to clients proactively.
- Build strong professional relationships and ensure high service quality and client
satisfaction.
- Manage expectations and provide clarity on timelines and deliverables.
5. Team Management & Training
- Supervise article students and junior team members on litigation, compliance, and
research tasks.
- Review their work, provide technical guidance, and ensure accuracy and quality.
- Conduct internal knowledge sessions for the IDT team.
- Assist in allocation of work, monitoring performance, and maintaining discipline within
the team structure.
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain case trackers, compliance trackers, and documentation files for each client.
- Prepare litigation status reports and present periodic updates to leadership and
clients.
- Draft internal notes, technical memos, and research summaries for complex matters.
- Support business development through proposal drafting, presentations, and client
pitches.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams for interdisciplinary matters involving
corporate law, audit, and direct tax.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Qualified Chartered Accountant with Strong knowledge of GST law, rules,
notifications, circulars, and latest jurisprudence.
- Excellent drafting skills for notices, replies, appeals, and legal submissions.
- Confident in representing clients before authorities.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and manage deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PPT, and online GST portals
