A Resident Medical Officer (RMO) in the dialysis department is responsible for the day-to-day medical management and supervision of patients undergoing dialysis treatment, working under the guidance of a Nephrology Consultant. This role involves continuous patient monitoring, emergency response, and detailed documentation. As a resident medical officer dialysis his/her responsibility is also to assist the consultant on duty in handling last-minute emergencies in the department.

Job Description of RMO - Dialysis

Patient Assessment and Monitoring:

1. Conduct pre-dialysis assessments to check the patients hemodynamic status, indications for dialysis, and vascular access.
2. Monitor patients closely during dialysis sessions and manage any complications promptly.
3. Perform daily rounds in the dialysis centre and wards to monitor patient progress and overall health.
4. Evaluate lab investigation reports and order necessary tests to foresee and prevent complications.

Clinical Procedures and Emergency Response:

1. Manage clinical decisions for dialysis patients, such as ultrafiltration (fluid removal), dialysis duration, and anticoagulation.
2. Respond immediately to medical emergencies within the department (e.g., cardiac arrests, sudden complications) and initiate appropriate life support procedures, such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
3. Assist senior residents or consultants.

Documentation and Administration:

1. Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including history, diagnosis, treatment plans,



and progress notes, using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
2. Ensure all documentation for procedures, medication orders, and discharge summaries is completed accurately.
3. Coordinate patient admissions and prepare discharge summaries efficiently.

Collaboration and Patient Education:

1. Liaise and coordinate with the senior consultant/nephrologist, nursing staff, and paramedical team to ensure integrated and high-quality patient care.
2. Educate and counsel patients and their families about the dialysis treatment process, dietary modifications, and managing emotional stress, referring them to dieticians or psychologists as needed.

Quality and Safety:

1. Adhere to infection control practices, safety guidelines, and relevant quality standards (e.g., NABH standards).
2. Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and clinical audits within the department.

Qualifications :

1. A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized reputed institution.
2. Registration with DMC is mandatory.
3. Relevant clinical experience in a hospital setting
4. Certifications in emergency care like BLS and ACLS are essential.

Experience

Minimum one year experience in a medium or large tertiary care hospital is preferred.
