Job Description (JD)

Deputy Manager - Instrumentation Construction (Projects)

Position Summary

Responsible for planning, execution, monitoring, and successful completion of instrumentation and automation projects for chemical/process plants. The role involves managing construction activities, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring safety and quality compliance, and delivering projects within approved cost, quality, and schedule targets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Construction and Execution

- Lead execution of instrumentation and automation project activities from construction to commissioning.
- Review engineering documents, P and IDs, instrument datasheets, control philosophies, and technical specifications.
- Prepare project schedules and monitor progress against milestones.
- Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Production teams for seamless project execution.
- Ensure project completion within approved timelines and budgets.
- Track construction progress, productivity, and resource utilization.
- Prepare BOQs, technical specifications, work scopes, and tender evaluation inputs.
- Monitor procurement and material delivery schedules to support project requirements.
- Ensure execution as per approved drawings, specifications, and industry standards.

2. Automation and Control Systems

- Coordinate implementation of DCS, PLC, SCADA, and field instrumentation systems.
- Review I/O lists, control narratives, cause and effect matrices, interlock philosophies, and shutdown logics.
- Support system architecture reviews and instrumentation design validation.
- Manage control system modifications, backups, and change management.
- Ensure integration of field instruments with control systems.

3. Commissioning and Startup

- Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Coordinate FAT, SAT,



loop checking, logic testing, and functional verification.
- Resolve commissioning-related technical issues and ensure smooth handover to operations.
- Prepare commissioning procedures, punch list closure, and documentation.

4. Quality Assurance and Compliance

- Ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering standards, and QA/QC requirements.
- Conduct inspections and quality audits during project execution.
- Verify calibration, installation, testing, and documentation of instruments.
- Ensure proper recording and closure of quality observations.

5. Safety, Risk Management and Compliance

- Ensure adherence to PTW systems, safety standards, and project EHS requirements.
- Participate in HAZOP, PSSR, risk assessments, and management of change (MOC) reviews.
- Drive safety culture and contractor safety compliance at site.
- Ensure statutory and company compliance requirements are met during execution.

6. Contractor and Stakeholder Management

- Manage contractors, vendors, and service providers for instrumentation works.
- Review contractor performance and ensure adherence to project schedules.
- Coordinate with OEMs and system integrators during implementation and commissioning.
- Provide periodic progress reports to project management and stakeholders.

7. Documentation and Project Controls

- Maintain project documentation, drawings, test reports, and commissioning records.
- Monitor project progress, costs, change orders, and resource deployment.
- Prepare MIS reports, project reviews, and management updates.
- Ensure timely closure of punch points and project handover documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

- B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering.
- 6-11 years of experience in Instrumentation and Automation project execution in Specialty Chemicals, Fine Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, or Process Industries.
- Experience in greenfield, brownfield, debottlenecking, and CAPEX projects.
- Hands-on experience in DCS/PLC/SCADA systems implementation and commissioning.
