Role & responsibilities
The Business Manager (BM) is a commercial lead within Akkodis India, driving relationship-led business development within the retail sector, with a primary focus on a strategic retail account. Focused on long-term client partnerships, the BM leads the full sales cycle from opportunity creation to deal closure, working closely with Technical Operations and Talent Acquisition to ensure delivery and resourcing align with client needs.
The role involves regular engagement with senior client stakeholders in India, including travel to Gurugram and the New Delhi NCR area to meet client teams on-site, alongside internal reporting on account activity.
- Cultivate and manage a long-term, strategic relationship with senior stakeholders at the account, built on trust, consultation, and shared outcomes.
- Drive new business within the account through insight-led engagement, proactive prospecting, and positioning of tailored, value-led solutions.
- Identify and lead multi-stream growth opportunities within the account, ensuring alignment with client priorities and Akkodis' capabilities.
- Contribute to cost models and pricing input to support commercially sound proposals.
- Deliver compelling solution proposals to senior client stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
- Collaborate with Technical Operations to scope client requirements, shape solution design, and confirm delivery feasibility.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to define strategic recruitment needs and support mobilisation for active and forecasted engagements in India.
- Monitor and report on account activity, including revenue growth, client satisfaction, and risk mitigation.
- Actively contribute to market and competitor analysis within the Indian retail sector to inform strategic planning and client engagement strategies.
- Engage regularly with the Business Unit Director and other senior stakeholders, feeding into account reviews and business planning.
- Travel regularly to Gurugram and New Delhi NCR to meet client teams and support on-the-ground account development, alongside a primary base in Bangalore.
Preferred candidate profile
- Proven track record of success in consultative, relationship-led sales within the technology, or professional services sectors.
- Prior experience within, or selling into, the retail and consumer sector is highly desirable, ideally including exposure to retail data, loyalty, or analytics-led propositions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles from early engagement through to commercial closure.
- Experience working cross-functionally with delivery, operations, and recruitment teams to execute scalable client solutions.
- Comfortable engaging and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders, including executive-level decision makers, across India and the UK.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly within India, principally between Bangalore and the Gurugram/New Delhi NCR area.
- Solid consultative sales skills with the ability to uncover client challenges and co-develop solutions.
- Good working knowledge of the retail industry: trends, technology priorities, and commercial models with the credibility to engage retail and retail-data stakeholders.
- Commercially astute with experience in pricing input, proposal development, and contract negotiation.
- Effective communicator and relationship builder, able to influence senior decision-makers across technical and commercial functions.
- Collaborative, proactive, and able to operate cross-functionally within a matrix organisation spanning India and the UK.
- Highly organised and able to manage multiple parallel sales opportunities and client engagements across locations.
Required Education
- Degree in Business Management, Engineering, IT, or a related commercial or technical discipline, OR
- Equivalent professional experience in a business development or account management role within a technology, consulting, or retail-led environment.
