Job Summary

Safety Officer - Projects and Development Services Gujarat Region

We are seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to support our Projects and Development Services team across the Gujarat region. This role focuses on implementing and monitoring safety protocols across active construction and fitout sites, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and JLLs global safety standards.

Responsibilities

- Site Safety Management: Conduct regular safety inspections and audits across multiple project sites in the Gujarat region. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes, and JLL safety management systems. Monitor contractor and vendor adherence to approved safety plans and method statements. Identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions, recommending immediate corrective actions. Maintain daily site safety logs, incident reports, and inspection documentation.
- Safety Planning Implementation: Assist in developing site-specific safety plans and emergency response procedures. Conduct pre-construction safety assessments and participate in project planning meetings. Review and approve contractor safety documentation including risk assessments and JSAs (Job Safety Analysis). Implement safety protocols for high-risk activities including working at heights, confined spaces, hot works, and electrical installations. Ensure proper signage, barricading, and safety demarcation at all project sites.
- Training Awareness: Conduct safety induction programs for all workers, contractors, and visitors entering project sites. Organize toolbox talks and safety briefing sessions on relevant topics. Train site personnel on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment. Create awareness campaigns on seasonal safety topics (monsoon preparedness, heat stress management, etc.). Maintain training records and ensure periodic refresher training compliance.
- Incident Management: Respond promptly to safety incidents, accidents, and near-miss events. Conduct thorough incident investigations to identify root causes and contributing factors. Prepare detailed incident reports with corrective and preventive action recommendations. Track and monitor closure of corrective actions from incidents and audits. Report incidents to the Safety Lead Gujarat and escalate critical issues as required.
- Compliance Documentation: Ensure all statutory safety permits and licenses are obtained and maintained (factory license,



fire NOC, etc.). Monitor contractor compliance with labor laws, working hours, and welfare provisions. Maintain comprehensive safety documentation including inspection reports, permits-to-work, and safety registers. Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports with key performance indicators and trends. Coordinate with local authorities for inspections and regulatory compliance matters.
- PPE Safety Equipment Management: Monitor availability and proper usage of personal protective equipment across sites. Conduct regular inspections of safety equipment including fire extinguishers, first aid kits, safety harnesses, and emergency equipment. Ensure safety equipment maintenance and calibration schedules are followed. Maintain inventory records of safety supplies and coordinate procurement as needed.
- Emergency Preparedness: Establish and maintain emergency response procedures for fire, medical emergencies, and natural disasters. Coordinate periodic emergency drills and mock evacuation exercises. Ensure functional emergency communication systems and updated emergency contact lists. Verify availability and accessibility of first aid facilities and trained first-aiders on all sites.
- Contractor Vendor Coordination: Evaluate contractor safety performance and maintain contractor safety scorecards. Conduct pre-mobilization safety meetings with new contractors. Monitor contractor compliance with approved safety plans and method statements. Coordinate safety-related stop-work orders when critical non-compliances are identified.

Qualifications

- Education: Diploma or Bachelors degree in Industrial Safety, Occupational Health Safety, Engineering, or related field. Certification in Industrial Safety from recognized institutions (NEBOSH IGC, IOSH, ADIS, or equivalent).
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Safety Officer in construction, civil projects, or corporate interior fitout projects. Proven experience managing safety across multiple concurrent project sites.



Experience working in Gujarat with understanding of local safety regulations and labor laws. Previous experience with corporate real estate, commercial interiors, or facility projects is preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of Indian safety regulations including Factories Act, Building Other Construction Workers Act, and relevant IS codes. Knowledge of safety requirements for MEP installations, civil works, and interior fitout activities. Understanding of electrical safety, fire safety systems, and construction equipment safety. Familiarity with occupational health hazards and control measures. Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements for construction activities.
- Skills Competencies: Strong observation skills with attention to detail for hazard identification. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Hindi, and Gujarati. Ability to influence and drive safety compliance across diverse contractor teams. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation. Computer literacy for digital safety management systems and reporting tools. Robust interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively across project teams.
- Personal Attributes: Proactive approach with strong sense of ownership and accountability. Confident personality with courage to enforce safety requirements. Ability to remain calm and effective during emergency situations. Willingness to travel extensively across Gujarat region (Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, etc.). Physical fitness to conduct site inspections in challenging environments.
- Preferred Qualifications: NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or NEBOSH Construction Certificate. First Aid certification from recognized training provider. Fire safety training and certification. Lead Auditor certification for ISO 45001 (Occupational Health Safety Management Systems). Experience with green building safety requirements (LEED, IGBC). Knowledge of international safety standards (OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001).

Location

Based in Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar with regular travel to project sites across Gujarat region.
