Role & responsibilities

Role Overview

The Microservices Developer will translate business and technical requirements into robust services and APIs. The engineer will work across analysis, detailed design, development, automated testing, CI/CD deployment, production support and root-cause remediation. The role requires robust collaboration with product owners, architects, platform teams, security teams and application stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Microservices & API Engineering

- Design and develop independently deployable Java Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs using approved engineering standards.
- Define service contracts, data models, validation, transformation logic, error handling, retries, timeouts and idempotency controls.
- Build secure, scalable and maintainable services for internal and external consumption, with clear API documentation.
- Apply suitable design patterns and write clean, modular, peer-reviewable code.

Event-Driven Integration

- Develop event-driven integrations using Apache Kafka or Confluent Kafka, including producers, consumers, schemas and failure-handling patterns.
- Collaborate on integrations involving Azure API Management, WSO2 and other enterprise platforms where required.
- Address data consistency, duplicate processing, replay, ordering and dead-letter scenarios.

Quality Engineering

- Create and maintain automated unit, component and integration tests; support end-to-end and performance testing.
- Participate in code reviews and remediate defects identified through peer review,



testing and security scanning.
- Maintain test evidence and achieve agreed code-coverage and quality standards.

DevSecOps & Delivery

- Package and deploy services using CI/CD pipelines, containers and Kubernetes-based environments.
- Use version control, branching, build automation, artifact repositories and environment-specific configuration practices.
- Implement secure-by-design controls, secrets management, dependency hygiene and vulnerability remediation.
- Prepare deployment, rollback and validation steps and comply with change-management requirements.

Production Support & Reliability

- Monitor service health, logs, traces, metrics, API performance and Kafka processing for failures or degradation.
- Triage and resolve incidents, service requests and production defects in line with priority and service-level expectations.
- Perform root-cause analysis, implement permanent corrective actions and update known-error and support documentation.
- Participate in planned releases and on-call support for critical incidents as rostered.

Documentation & Collaboration

- Maintain technical specifications, API definitions, sequence/data-flow diagrams, runbooks, SOPs and release notes alongside code changes.
- Estimate work, refine user stories, communicate risks and dependencies, and demonstrate completed outcomes in Agile ceremonies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve endpoint, platform, security and environment dependencies.
