- Conduct preliminary vision tests, including visual acuity, tonometry, and field of vision screenings.
- Administer prescribed ocular medications, such as dilating drops and topical anesthetics, prior to the doctor's examination.
- Record detailed patient medical histories and document current symptoms in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
2. Surgical & Procedure Assistance
- Prepare operating theaters (OT) and minor procedure rooms, ensuring all specific ophthalmic instruments are sterile and ready.
- Assist ophthalmologists directly during minor procedures and major eye surgeries (e.g., cataract removal, LASIK, vitrectomies).
- Monitor patient vital signs and comfort levels before, during, and immediately after procedures.
3. Patient Education & Care
- Counsel patients and their families on pre-operative requirements and post-operative care instructions.
- Demonstrate the correct technique for self-administering eye drops and ointments.
- Triage post-operative concerns and escalate emergency symptoms to the consulting doctor.
4. Equipment Management & Compliance
- Perform routine maintenance and sterilization of delicate diagnostic and surgical eye equipment.
- Maintain strict adherence to clinical infection control protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Manage inventory for the nursing station, ensuring adequate stock of lenses, surgical supplies, and medications.
