Job Description
Job Summary
The Respiratory Technician assists in the assessment, treatment, monitoring, and care of patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders. The role involves operating and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment, assisting physicians and respiratory therapists during procedures, administering prescribed respiratory treatments, and ensuring accurate documentation while maintaining patient safety and infection control standards.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Assist in providing respiratory care services to patients of all age groups.
- Administer oxygen therapy, nebulization, aerosol therapy, and other prescribed respiratory treatments.
- Monitor patients' respiratory status, oxygen saturation, and vital signs during treatment.
- Assist in airway management and emergency respiratory procedures.
- Support pulmonary function testing and blood gas sample collection as required.
Clinical Support
- Prepare and set up respiratory therapy equipment for patient care.
- Assist pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, and respiratory therapists during procedures.
- Maintain patient records and document treatments accurately.
- Educate patients and caregivers on respiratory devices and treatment plans.
Equipment Management
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, clean, disinfect, and maintain respiratory care equipment.
- Perform routine quality checks and preventive maintenance of ventilators, oxygen delivery systems, BiPAP/CPAP devices, nebulizers, and monitoring equipment.
- Ensure adequate stock of respiratory consumables and supplies.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly and coordinate repairs.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow infection control protocols and hospital safety guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with departmental SOPs, NABH standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental audits.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical standards of care.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Respiratory Care Technology, or Allied Health Sciences.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.
