Position: NIMAS Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

Create and validate NIMAS-compliant XML file sets from print PDFs, InDesign files, and other source formats.
Structure content according to NIMAS/DAISY standards, including headings, lists, tables, images, page navigation and footnotes.
Prepare XML, OPF, NCX, image and supporting files required for a complete NIMAS package.
Write and review alt text for images, diagrams, charts and other instructional content.
Handle complex educational content, including mathematics, scientific notation and tables.
Validate packages against NIMAS requirements and resolve XML, metadata and packaging errors.
Perform quality checks before submission to NIMAC or the client.
Address client or NIMAC validation feedback and resubmit corrected files.
Maintain project documentation, checklists and delivery records.

Required Skills and Experience:





At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience in NIMAS file creation and validation.
Robust knowledge of XML, DTBook, OPF, NCX and DAISY/NIMAS standards.
Experience with educational or K–12 publishing content.
Familiarity with NIMAC submission and certification requirements.
Working knowledge of accessibility standards and alt-text requirements.
Experience with XML editors and validation tools, such as Oxygen XML Editor.
Good understanding of HTML, CSS, EPUB and MathML would be an advantage.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to independently manage quality and delivery timelines.
