Calculation Technician (LMS / Surfacing Calculation) Also advertised as: LMS Technician, Lab Calculation Operator, Rx Order Entry Technician, Lens Layout Technician Requirements - 2–5 years in lab calculation, surfacing, order entry or Rx verification - Solid arithmetic — must transpose and calculate on paper, not only in software - Good English — able to read prescriptions, orders and supplier documentation - Detail-oriented; comfortable questioning an order that looks wrong Job tasks - Review incoming prescriptions for completeness and errors before production - Transposition, prism and Prentice's rule, decentration, minimum blank size, centre/edge thickness - Select blank: material, index, diameter, base curve, design - Operate LMS software (DAC, Satisloh, Optotech, Schneider, Coburn or similar) — order entry, job ticket, tool and blocking data - Handle frame tracing and shape data (A, B, DBL, ED) - Work with freeform/digital jobs: compensated Rx, position of wear (tilt, wrap, vertex distance) - Release jobs to surfacing; flag jobs beyond lab capability Verify finished power on a lensmeter against ANSI Z80.1 / ISO 8980 tolerances - Control blank consumption and investigate remakes
