Job Purpose:
The Nursing Superintendent is the overall administrative and operational leader of the nursing department. This role is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating all nursing care services across the Labour Room, Postnatal Ward, Gynecology, IVF Centre, NICU and Advanced Maternal Care units. The Nursing Superintendent ensures that patient care meets the highest quality standards, maintains staff discipline and adequate skill-mix — including specialized obstetric and neonatal nursing competencies — manages nursing rosters, and oversees compliance with hospital accreditations (NABH/JCI) and infection control protocols.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
1. Nursing Administration & Operational Management
- Oversee daily Labour Room, Postnatal Ward, Gynecology Ward, NICU, OT and Emergency nursing operations to ensure smooth clinical flow.
- Manage manpower planning, duty rosters, shift handovers, leaves, and emergency coverages to maintain optimal nurse-to-patient ratios,



including mandated Labour Room and NICU staffing norms.
- Ensure optimal supply, stock maintenance, and proper usage of ward equipment, emergency carts, and neonatal/maternal resuscitation trolleys and medicines.

2. Clinical Quality, Patient Safety & Infection Control
- Drive strict adherence to NABH/JCI nursing standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs) for delivery, NICU and IVF-support nursing, and safety protocols.
- Partner with the Infection Control Committee to enforce hand hygiene, NICU asepsis, needle-stick safety, biomedical waste management, and fall-prevention measures.
- Monitor clinical nursing indicators, including pressure sores, catheter-associated UTIs, medication errors, neonatal infection rates, and breastfeeding/Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) compliance.
- Handle patient grievances related to nursing and maternity care and initiate swift corrective actions.
