YOUR IMPACT

You will make custom software tools that will be implemented directly within our client organizations.

You will help us design and architect our stack and make it successful. You will also help design our back-end, front-end and visualization tools and together with a team, you will make them come alive. You will have a unique prospect to exercise your creativity and technical skills whilst growing into a thought leader in the financial services space and a technology leader at our firm.

You will work with other software engineers, data scientists, ML engineers, designers, project managers and business subject matter experts on interdisciplinary projects. You will: collaborate cross-functionally with business stakeholders, software engineers, data scientists, data engineers, and internal teams to design and deliver impactful, reliable and reusable solutions; develop and apply deep domain understanding to client problems and internal R&D; efforts, using innovative analytical approaches to create measurable impact; design and build scalable applications and infrastructure ensuring robustness, modularity, and reproducibility, even under the non-deterministic nature of Generative AI; develop and maintain production-grade software, write clean, efficient, and secure code, while actively participating in code reviews and debugging.

You will also: continuously improve engineering practices by enhancing development workflows, adopting new technologies, and promoting software and data engineering best practices; and engage in problem-solving sessions with client and internal teams to translate complex business needs into actionable technical solutions.

You will be based out of our India (Bengaluru) offices as part of the Financial Services data center of excellence, within the Banking practice. Financial Innovation Labs (FinLab) is a specialized team within McKinsey that focuses on driving innovation and transformation in the financial services sector amongst other industries. You will be part of a group that operates globally, delivering cutting-edge data and analytic solutions to support clients navigating complex challenges and unlocking new opportunities.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience

3+ years of full-stack or software development experience in a production environment

Proficiency in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript ES6+) and modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular)

Strong knowledge of server-side languages (e.g., Python, Java, Ruby, Node.js or .NET) and frameworks (e.g., Flask, SQLAlchemy, Pandas, Spark), with a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design

Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON-based data exchange, web sockets, streaming protocols, and microservices architecture

Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB)

Hands-on experience developing Generative AI applications, including LLM engineering, prompt engineering, RAG, and autonomous or collaborative agentic systems

Proficient in Git and version control best practices, code reviews, and agile methodologies such as Scrum

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Docker containers

Experience designing scalable software architectures and writing testable, secure, high-performance, and responsive code

Cloud platform experience, with a focus on Microsoft Azure and AWS (Snowflake or GCP experience is a plus)

Working knowledge of data platforms and pipelines, including data warehousing/lakes (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks), ETL/ELT orchestration (e.g., Airflow), and data modelling for structured and unstructured data

Highly inquisitive and creative problem-solver who helps colleagues and clients draw new insights and impact from data; excited about working in a cross-cultural environment

Entrepreneurial mindset and self-starter, ready to step into a fast-paced, dynamic environment and build a strong network across the practice

Professional attitude, team player, and service-oriented mentality

Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey analytical and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and work effectively in cross-functional teams
