ROLE OVERVIEW
The DGM – Facility Engineering will be responsible for planning, execution, and upkeep of all utilities and facility infrastructure supporting the Ingot, Wafer, Cell manufacturing plant – including ancillary, power distribution, HVAC, cleanroom systems, process gases, water treatment/recycling, compressed air, cooling tower and fire & safety systems. The role covers the full lifecycle from EPC design and installation through commissioning and statutory compliance, ensuring uninterrupted, efficient, and safe utility support to a large-scale (GW-size) project setup as well in successfully handing over to operation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the complete engineering function across all manufacturing (Ingot, Wafer, Solar Cell and ancillary manufacturing lines, from concept design through commissioning and ramp-up.
- Support and providing to ensure on time execution– project scheduling (WBS), equipment finalization, BOM/raw-material planning, and vendor/OEM evaluation and selection.
- Drive plant layout, utilities design (power, water, process gases, HVAC, cleanroom) and overall process-flow optimization for maximum efficiency.
- Interface with technology licensors and equipment OEMs for installation, process qualification, and production ramp-up of ingot pullers, wire saws, diffusion furnaces, PECVD and screen-printing lines.
- Selection of engineering consultant and coordination with them for timely delivering of engineering input.
- Ensure timely statutory and environmental compliance, including CTE/CTO approvals, water balance planning, and pollution-control requirements.
- Lead manpower planning and organization structuring for the engineering function,
including evaluation of offshore vs. in-house technical consultants.
- Ensure system design is engineered to ensure that values are well in control with allocated budget.
- BOQ Preparation and cost estimation of the plants.
- Drive continuous support for improvement in process yield, throughput, capacity utilization, and product quality (cell efficiency, wafer thickness/breakage rates) during ramp and operations.
- Ensure EHS compliance and safety standards during engineering.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Quality, SCM, Projects and Finance to align engineering priorities with business objectives.
- Drive automation, digitalization and Industry initiatives for real-time process monitoring and control.
- Implementation of artificial inelegance and digital twin.
- Build, mentor and develop the technical capability of the engineering team.
- Report plant engineering KPIs, project milestones, and risk mitigation plans to senior management/promoters.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering; M. Tech preferred.
- 18–22 years of overall experience in solar PV (ingot/wafer/cell) manufacturing, semiconductor processing, or large EPC projects, including at least 5 years in a General Manager / senior leadership role.
- Should have exposure to design and engineering software including BIM
- Demonstrated experience in supporting greenfield project execution – EPC planning, equipment commissioning, and ramp-up of a GW-scale manufacturing facility.
- Solid technical grounding in plant engineering (Buildings, Facilities, automation etc) in solar manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of statutory and environmental compliance requirements (CTE/CTO, water balance, pollution control norms) applicable to manufacturing plants.
