Project title: Understanding Family Caregiving for Dementia Patients in India

Brief Intro About the Project

In India, the proportion of the population aged 60 and above is projected to double from 10.5% to 20.1% between 2023 and 2050, driving the old-age dependency ratio from 15.7 to 23 by 2036. As formal geriatric systems remain limited, the demand for informal family caregiving will surge. Caregiving for older adults with dementia represents the upper bound of this caregiving burden due to intense time demands, financial strains, and severe psychological impact. This project seeks to gain a comprehensive understanding of family caregiving for dementia patients in India through an exploratory quantitative data analysis. Unpacking these micro-dynamics is essential to provide critical, evidence-based insights for policymakers, researchers, and other public health stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Literature Review: Conduct structured literature searches and summarize relevant studies

Data Cleaning & Harmonization: Process, clean, and merge large-scale individual and household microdata files using Stata





Data Analysis: Assist in constructing composite variables, conducting descriptive analysis, and running econometric regression models

Research Output Support: Assist in drafting technical reports, tables, figures, academic manuscripts, and presentation materials for stakeholder dissemination

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Economics
- Robust working knowledge of Stata

Desirable:

- Prior experience handling large-scale Indian microdata surveys (e.g., LASI, NFHS, IHDS, PLFS, or NSSO)
- Demonstrated experience in conducting academic literature reviews and synthesizing complex research findings
